Everytime you bring your child to visit the doctor at the nearby clinic or hospital, does your child becomes so impatient that he MUST touch the toys or “little playground” at the children corner?
Most toddler and children below age 12 are impatient.
They couldn’t wait for another 5 min at the doctor’s waiting room, doing absolutely nothing but SIT STILL and WAIT, looking at the TV which is not his favorite program or looking at the aquarium with guppy fishes swmming around in a filthy environment. You can just imagine how long the aquarium had been cleaned !
Yes, most clinics do provide a little “playground” for sick patients ( sick children ) to entertain themselves while waiting for their turns to be treated by the doctor in charge.
Why are children attracted to the toys
Honestly, it is difficult to keep your childrens’ hands off the toys while waiting to see the doctor.
Here are the reasons:
#1 -Children fear of the doctor. They have a misunderstanding that doctors and nurses would give them an injection for being sick or naughty.
That is a wrong impression which was implemented by angry parents and grandparents when they tried to educate mischevious and stubborn children.
Hence, children needed toys and playground to keep their fear off for the time being.
#2- These playthings are children comfort things besides blanket, pillow or dolls.
Since they are not allowed to bring their favorite things or toys to the waiting room, fear of obtaining infections from other sick children, they are easily attracted to toys and playground found at the corner of the waiting room.
#3- To kill the boredom
Sick children are prone to crying, whining and wailing while impatiently waiting for their turn.
Their parents are feeling frustrated with them but unable to stop them from keeping silent, not more than 5 seconds.
So, most frustrated parents would allow the sick children to roam about, touching literally EVERYTHING they see.
Reasons why You Shouldn’t let your child play with toys in doctor’s waiting room
#1- There, you can see assorted toys, cuddling teddy bears and mini slide playground which were filthy and dirty.
Everyone knows that the toys in doctor’s waiting room are gross with bacteria, germs, mucus, saliva infected from the sick children.
#2-The nurses ignore the cleanliness of the toys, couldn’t be bothered whether the bacteria would infect one child to another.
#3- They ignore parents suggestions to clean the infected toys and playground because that is not part of their duties or responsibilities.
#4- Toys that are broken with sharp parts visibly shown are dangerous.
These sharp plastic parts might hurt your child if not taken away immediately.
Toddlers might accidentally swallo small broken parts without parents inspection, causing gag or choking which might lead to death or serious problems.
#5-In addition, torn teddy bears or soft toys without limbs might incubate germs or maggots from vomit waste, saliva, urination which had been absorbed into the soft toys ( that are made with fabrics, sponge, cotton).
Hence, these hidden germs or maggots spread infections or viral disease to innocent children unexpectedly.
Conclusion:
It is best to remove these playthings and soft toys away from the clinic or hospital.
Instead, replace them with books, magazines, pop up books which are sold in Salvation Army or 2nd hand shops at a very cheap price.
Patients seeking treatments at clinic and hospital should be protected from health risk, especially young children.
