Chee Cheong Fun is the Chinese name for Steamed Rice Noodle Roll, a popular light breakfast in the Chinese community.
It was originally found in Southern China, the Cantonese community.
It rose to popularity in Hong Kong where Chee Cheong Fun is served as the side dish with Dim Sum ( minced meat wrapped in Wanton skin)
Chee Cheong Fun is made from ground rice, tapioca flour mixed with large amount of water.
Then, the flour mixture is poured onto a large round sheet of cloth on the steamer at high heat.
Once the rice noodle is formed, it is quickly rolled up into a long tube.
Usually, cooked ingredients are scattered onto the steamed rice roll before rolling it up.
-Shrimps
-Roasted pork ( char siew )
-Minced beef
-Shredded vegetables
However, some people prefer to consume plain Chee Cheong Fun with black sauce seasoning.
During my childhood days, my mom used to buy pre-packed Chee Cheong Fun ( Steamed Rice Noodle Rolls) at the night market for the next morning breakfast.
Back then, Chee Cheong Fun was one of our culture local popular breakfast because it was cheap and easy to prepare compare to Fried Rice.
Morning rush is a normal “thing” that happened in most of my classmates household too.
Mommies panicked when children woke up late for school, school bus was on the way and breakfast wasn’t even on the dining table yet.
Hence, Chee Cheong Fun was the fastest and simplest breakfast idea for school age children, that mommies could prepare.
Mom used to open up the package, tumble the cold Chee Cheong Fun onto the plate, steam under high heat in 10 minutes ( water in a wok, use a steamer stand to steam the Chee Cheong Fun) with the ready-made thick gravy.
It was a heart and delicious breakfast for us.
Honestly, it was better than the usual and boring toast bread with butter or jam.
In addition, Chee Cheong Fun is often sold together with Dim Sum and steamed buns ( also known as pork bao ) for morning breakfast.
It is surprising that this traditional light breakfast is still available in the market after decades.
– 1 packet Chee Cheong Fun ( Rice Noodles- sold in hypermarket and wet market )
– 1 tbsp Chinese BBQ sauce
– 1 tbsp light soy sauce
– 1 tsp sesame oil;
-1 tsp chilli sauce ( optional)
– 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds ( white )

Noodles are fun food. I don't usually eat breakfast. (Usually not hungry when I wake up.) But if these were served, I'd make an exception.
Since this is a breakfast item, do they have restaurants where they serve “Breakfast All Day” in China like we do in America?
Wow! I'll try this one on my breakfast just to spice things a bit!
