Bringing in the wild

Roses were once growing wild in the jungles. They were brought in gradually and they now enjoy a pride of place in many gardens.

If one were to roam the jungles there would be better looking flowers out there wasted. That reminds me of the stanze in the poem “Elegy in the Country Church Yard’ by Thomas Gray

“Full many a gem of the purest ray serene,

The dark unfatomed caves of the ocean bear.

Full many a flower is bloomed to blush unseen

And wastes its fragrance in the desert air”

My garden has several such flowers that have a pride of place.  I respect them and even collect them from jungles. If they happen to just arrive I keep them there and nurture them.

One such flower is what we call

Tiger claw” It resembles the tiger’s claw and there has that name. It has come on its own and shows itself up at the first shower.

It is a creeper. Caterpillars love that plant but I drive them away. If I am not alert the whole creeper is devoured by the caterpillar

There are nurseries in the US who sell seeds of wild flowers and some ardent gardeners beautify their gardens with these flowers.

All the millions of flowers that we see around us were once growing in jungles and forests.  Orchids still are found in jungles. Orchid lovers wll go on their binge and collect them. They sometimes get the names of those who have given them status.

One disadvantage however is that some of these wild plants tend to invade the entire garden and refuse to leave. I have one such creeperwhich is the blue trumpet flower. We have a job practically every day to bring this creeper down although the flowers do add decor to our garden. But over doing is not good as they say.

    • Those wildflowers before were unnoticed. The people have neglected them for they grow in mountains, hills and the bank of the river. But they never escape those flower lovers. They are cut or uprooted and put them in a polybag or plastic bag and brought home.

Just like a domestic flower, they are nurtured, taken care. They grow and produce bright, beautiful flowers. People notice them, value them, appreciate them. I even love them and accept their beauty which adds to the garden. And their existence has reached the public and they become demandable and sell very costly.

    • I had never heard of 'Tiger Claw'. May be because I am not too much into gardening and plants. Thanks for sharing this @grace! This is one reason I love blogging. You get to know so much about things which probably you would have never known otherwise.
