I am a beach lover having experienced visits to several beaches home and abroad. Beach is a place where one can be one with nature along with one’s own thoughts. But that will only be possible if the beach has only the sound of waves.
Here in India the best place to spend time on beaches is Goa. There are several beaches there and the best time is to visit Goa in the rains when the place is washed out clean, with lush greenery everywhere. Each beach has its individual characteristics and one can choose what best suits them although a tour can take you to all the beaches.
But when it comes to the Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, enough is not enough.
I could not spend much time but we got down the bus and walked down to the beach. The time we visited was in the morning and the beach was empty – not a person in sight. The beach looked spotlessly clean. I am told the shore is maintained painstakingly. Every 4th day it is combed for any garbage that the beach combers would have thrown around.
We cannot imagine such dedication in India – sorry to say that though.
I just sat there though limited time was given to us. I was the last to get on the bus and that too after the bus driver alerted me that it was time to move on.
I looked at some pictures on the net of the very same beach and there was one with people, packed like sardines. The beach looked overcrowded – all were there to have fun obviously and must have chosen that beach as being the cleanest. There were no signs put up cautioning swimmers which meant that the beach was safe for anyone who wanted to swim.

We are not as dedicated to such cleanliness in Singapore too.
A few years ago, the desperate government started a scheme to shame the litterbugs by getting them to wear bright-color jackets and comb the beach for litter.
Guess what! The reporters are out and TV crew are out to interview them.
I always had a feeling Singapore was quite consciious of keeping their country well groomed.
