Body Wash Or Bar of Soap: Which Is Your Preference?

Comparison of Body Wash with Bar of Soap

There are several surveys on what most people prefer when it comes to bathing or taking a shower. While some continue to use the traditional soap, surveys reveal today men and women prefer using a body wash rather than a bar of soap. The surveys reveal that today men and women prefer using a liquid body wash rather than a bar of soap.

That might be surprising, but according to Mintel, a products and market research firm that tested the results reported that more people are using liquid body washes. The firm also reported that in the future more and more people will be using liquid soap and leaving bars of soap behind in the dust.

Some households don’t even buy bars of soap any longer. It’s more convenience for people to use liquid soap to clean themselves.

The liquid body wash has replaced soap entirely in public restrooms and in some households. There are several reasons for this trend. First of all, liquid soap is more convenient. It comes in a bottle, so there is no soggy soap dish to use. Liquid soap is easier for children. A soap bar can become slippery in their hands. Besides, there is no danger of dropping and slipping on liquid soap.

The Price

The price of a bar of soap is less expensive than liquid soap. Since that is the case, why are people choosing liquid soap over bars of soap? Depending on the brand and size you buy, a bar of soap costs a few cents less. You do have more choices of scents when it comes to liquid soaps.

Rolanda Johnson, a senior scientist with Proctor & Gamble Beauty estimates that a 10-ounce bottle of body wash will yield about 29 washes depending on who’s washing and how much body wash they use. Therefore, body wash costs about $0.17 per wash.

One bar of soap, typically yields about 27 washes. Bar soaps are mostly sold in packs of two to 12 bars. They are not usually sold individually. A pack of 3 bars of Ivory soap costs 97 cents, or about $0.32 per bar, which turns out to be just about $0.012 per wash.

Even though body washes and soap prices vary depending on the brand, it’s clear that soap is the bargain winner. Since that is true, then why do people opt to pay a little more for their suds?

Benefits of Body Wash

Body washes cleanse, moisturizes and improves the condition of the skin because it contains Vitamin E, glycerin, and soybean. That means there is no need to use lotion after using body soap. Bars of soap do not include these ingredients. Therefore, using bars of soap makes the process more expensive because you still have to purchase lotion. .

Women and older people are loyal to soap because when it comes to getting clean, soaps remove dirt and oils. However in a solid form, it cannot hold the same moisturizing properties as liquid body washes.

There is no need to use lotion if you use the liquid body wash because many washes cleanse and moisturize. Therefore, you will save considerably for having not to buy lotion.

Benefits of Soap

Soap is less bulky to travel with than a bottle of body wash. There are some soaps with nubs that massage. Surely a body wash can’t do that. Some bars of soaps have exfoliating properties that are usually not found in body washes.

If you are not looking for moisturization, then soap is what you should choose.

Use a Shower Puff

Whether you prefer using soap or liquid body wash, you can make both last longer if you use a shower puff. If you use your hand or a wash cloth to make a lather, you’ll make less and it won’t go as far.

Use Less Liquid Soap

The disadvantage of using liquid soap is that people use more than is need, and that’s a waste. They tend to use twice as much as what is really needed. You need only two teaspoonful of liquid soap. In comparison, you can get clean with little less than one teaspoon of soap from a bar.

Summary

Soap is cheaper than liquid body wash.
You don’t need lotion if you use liquid body wash.

Use liquid body wash or soap on a shower puff to make the product last longer.

The bottom line is that it is a matter of preference whether you use liquid soap or a bar of soap. Just remember, the convenience, the price and the overall benefits of what you choose.

    • I have never come across liquid soap for bathing. I use a sponge pouch wherein I place the soap and get a good lather before using it. This way the soap does not slip out.

    • I enjoy taking a bath by using liquid soaps but since my mom always buy bar soaps for us, I have no choice but to use it. Anyway, nice post!
