Blood donation is like saving a life

Probably one the noble social cause is BLOOD DONATION, something which is within our reach and a simple way we can make a huge difference to the society at large. We need to build a vibrant, active and social movement throughout the length and breadth of our beloved society to raise awareness amongst the population for donating blood by motivating every healthy person to come forward and give blood voluntarily and regularly. We as a nation, extends our best wishes to all those engaged in promoting this noble cause. As medical science is advancing at a terrific speed, the need for blood is equally in very great demand in our country as there are many fatal accidents and complicated surgeries going on to save human lives. The timely availability of safe blood can save a life in distress. Blood donation is entirely a safe procedure and builds an immediate and immeasurable relationship between the donor and often an unidentified recipient.

Donating blood is almost saving a precious life – Blood donation is an extremely noble act. It is something one would do to put their share in helping a person in need.

There are several myths about blood donation and one need to understand that simply donating a bottle of blood will not make you sick. Blood cells form in one’s body very fast, and by the time you have a glass of milk and some fruit, you’ve made twice the blood you donated.

There’s no substitute for human blood, although researchers have been trying for decades to create an artificial substitute. Only blood from one person can save another.

Human blood contains different proteins, and can be classified into four major blood groups: A, B, AB, and O. Type O is the most common, and the type blood banks frequently run short of during their peak seasons. Blood transfusions must take place between donors of like blood types. The body produces antibodies if given the wrong blood type.

    • I agree, donating blood is a noble deed because it can save the life of another who needs it most. Good thing there are non-government organizations who conduct blood donation drive to help local blood banks have reserved blood for those who need it.

    • Blood donation forms a important social responsibility of each and every individual in the society. There are many organizations and bloodbanks who conduct these drives on a regular basis. The advantages of donating blood are you feel good about doing your bit to save a life as life is precious and many deaths occur due to not getting the right group of blood for the patient who needs it. This very true especially in the case of patients whose blood group is rare and difficult to find.

Some care is also to be taken when donating blood. One should not be taking medicines if one is wanting to donate blood. It should be voluntary and should not be sold. It should be always donated at registered blood banks which are certified by government agencies and they need to be checked properly before going there. Care should be taken and proper safe instruments should be used for taking blood from the donors as other wise they too may get infected. The blood of the donors should also be checked well for any health issues before accepting the same.
