Blogging for Foodies and Food Lovers

In a previous post or discussion, someone indicated they wanted to start a food blog. My advice is: Go for it! Don’t most people like to eat? Besides a food blog is just a electronic recipe box.  Even if you don’t get a lot of visitors, it’s a handy dandy way to keep track of your treasure trove of recipes.

However, if you love food but can’t be a food blogger or publish a food blog, maybe you can blog for foodies and food lovers. Is there a difference you ask? Yes! Yes there is! You don’t have to know how to cook or have your own recipes to share. You can share food finds published by others.

Before you say that’s not a good idea, I’ll confess that it’s NOT my idea. Borrowed it from Scoop.it. Several years back, I was invited to create a free account at this site and start curating content.  Have been a happy and satisfied account holder ever since.

Curating content? What does it mean?

It means you pick a topic, then you choose what you think is the best of the best from all around the web, and organize it under that specific topic to re-share with others. If you’re surfing the web all the time anyway, you may find “scooping” to be much more fun than plain old bookmarking.   The way it was explained to me?  Think of a museum.  The museum or art curator is the one who chooses the best items for exhibit.  The curator does the time-consuming work; research, finding pieces, organizing the displays, etc.  You get to enjoy the fruits of their labor and casually browse around and enjoy yourself.  🙂  More about Scoop.it.

At any rate, decided to take this content curator idea and strategy to another level. If you know how to use a blogging or micro-blogging platform, you can still curate content and possibly earn some extra income. Started two new foodie blogs for 2017 and beyond. One using the Blogspot platform and the other is a micro-blog on Tumblr. It’s huge fun searching for and then sharing recipes, cooking tips, kitchen products, gourmet food gifts, etc.

The added plus is that Blogspot and Tumblr allow you to monetize your blog.

  • Blogspot allows Google Ad Sense and affiliate referral links.
  • Tumblr allows affiliate links and has future plans to “partner up” with its users. Not sure what the partnership involves but hopefully it will be a means of generating residual income. (“Coming soon! Money From Your Tumblr”; Post dated July 2016.)

My most recent post at my Blogspot blog as of the date of this post is: Edible Art Of Kawaii Cooking; and this is a link to a random post at my Tumblr.

Not sure you want to try this? Why not?  Both platforms are free and if you don’t like it you can always delete the blog.

Nothing is written in stone.

But how will you know if it will be a profitable endeavor, if you don’t try?
