Being a Hypochondriac and making the boss pay

In every commercial enterprise you will find them.  These are people who are so overly concerned about their health they make everyone else sick.

When they have health insurance, as many companies do, they drain it to the last drop.  Every itch, cough, sneeze, needs medical attention.

Some people call it the ‘Old Maid/Man’ syndrome, although many of these people aren’t over thirty.

The childless woman often focuses on her monthlies and is usually absent  one day every month.   In Jamaica, where she’s allowed  twenty sick days a year, she finds use for the excess.
The ‘Old Man’  like the Old Maid  creates maladies if he hasn’t already given himself diabetes due to his over eating of junk or liver problems due to his drinking.

To give these people medical coverage will bankrupt a company.  They will visit every specialist until they exceed their coverage.

And, they cause the premiums to increase, not just for them, but everyone.

Insurers will jack up the premiums on all members when one exceeds 75% of coverage.   This one person with their hypochondria can cause the entire company to reach bankruptcy.

When the company/boss has to pay vastly higher premiums the money has to come from somewhere.  It may force the boss to make the workers pay a portion, or, might cause the coverage to lapse when the boss will no longer pay.

Wise bosses check before they put their hand in their pocket.   One Old Man or Old Maid will deplete the health care for everyone and cause a raising of premiums.

The only way to survive is to get the Old Man/Maid to quit before they bankrupt you.

One can bring in a health professionals  to talk about Wellness or give bonuses for perfect attendance. But the Old Man/Old Maid is not interested in anything but themselves.     They have nothing in their lives, so focus on themselves and will use all their health care in a few months.

It wouldn’t be bad if they could be kicked off the benefit but the policy would remain for the others, but that is not how it goes.

In every company which has been impelled to drop health benefits,  one will find one or two workers who went to town on it to the detriment of everyone.
