Ballet dancing: An attractive dance that benefits our body

Have you ever been mesmerized with how a ballet dancer performs in the crowd? I am always a fan of ballet dancers. Though I don’t dance like them, but I always admire them. Their gracefulness, their flexibilities, and every move they do make my mouth utter an “Oh”.

What is a ballet?

Ballet is an art. It is a form of dance with smooth, graceful, attractive, and charming steps. It includes spins and leaps with arm movements.

When performing a ballet, it includes scenery, costumes, music, and dance.

Some of the very well known ballet dancers are The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Anna Pavlova, Jose Limon, and swan lake.

Is ballet dancing easy?

“With graceful movement, raise your arms! Bring together your fingers over your head. Now you lift your one foot. Next, point your one toe on the floor and do a striking pose.”  These lines are often heard from ballet instructors. When you are going to watch a training of a ballet dancing, you will find out how hard it is. It will go through a lot of exercises and processes in order for a dancer to master the dance.

Most girls who want to study ballet starts at the age of 8 to 10. The boys may start at an older age than girls.

When ballet students undergo training, they have to learn first the following.

  • Learn the proper body balance.
  • Learn how to move the body gracefully and flexible.
  • Develop and gain more strength.

When they already perfect their balancing, flexibility and gracefulness as well as they developed their strength, dancers will move to the next process.

Instructors will teach them a set of gestures and movements. The usual for the girls starts dancing on their toes which are called the pointe. They begin by pointing their toe on the floor while doing circular movements or any movements the instructor will give.

Ballet dance class routine

  • Ballet dancers start their class by doing exercises on the BARRE, or the railing which serves as a support to the dancers.
  • Next, they will be doing slow exercises, which develop smooth motion and balance of the body.
  • After that, ballet dancers will now do some quick movements like leg extensions, small jumps, large steps, leaps, and turns or spins.

What are the benefits of ballet dancing?

  • It will boost body balance and coordination.
  • It will help improve cardiovascular health, endurance, and stamina as you do leaping and jumping which makes your heart rate increase.
  • It will also improve physical self-control and body awareness.
  • Ballet dancing will also be a big help to improve the emotional and mental health of the children.
  • It will also boost the self-esteem of an individual.
  • Ballet dancing can make you relax your body.
  • By joining ballet performances, classes, and training, it will help you improve your social skills.
  • It will help foster communication, cooperation, teamwork, and trust.
  • It also offers cognitive and educational benefits like the overall consciousness of memory and attention.
