Australia defeat the minnows Scotland

In the 4th match of the ICC cricket world cup, Australia was against Scotland. This game was played on New Road, Worcester, England on 16th May, 1999. Australia was number one in ICC cricket world rankings and Scotland was no. 11, so we cannot expect much from Scotland but you cannot take any team casually in cricket.

Australia won the toss and opts to bowl first, so Scotland will bat first and set target for Australia to chase later.

As expected Scotland cricket team started the innings slowly and calmly so that it can bat for full 50 over’s and lost their 1^st wicket on team score of 19 runs in 10.5 over’s and then keep on losing the wickets at regular intervals and Gavin Hamilton top scored for them with 34 runs in 42 balls with 3 4’s and strike rate of 81 runs in 100 balls and Skipper George S made 31 runs in 54 balls with 2 4’s and strike rate of 57 runs in 100 balls. They batted for 50 over’s and made 181 runs at the loss of 7 wickets.

Australia now needs only 182 runs to win this game in allotted 50 over’s.

Australia started poorly as they lost their 1^st wicket in the form of wicket keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist at the team score of 17 runs in 5.2 over’s. But Australia chased the total in 44.5 over’s at the loss of only 5 wickets with Mark Waugh top scored with 67 runs in 114 balls with 5 4’s at the strike rate of 59 runs in 100 balls and captain Steve Waugh made the contribution of unbeaten 49 runs in 69 balls with 7 4’s and strike rate of 71 runs in 100 balls.

Mark Waugh was declared man of the match for his batting.
