Assad Regime Use Of Chemical Attack A Crime Against Humanity

Justice demands that those responsible for airstrike against the civilian population in the City of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib Province, Syria must be brought to the bar of justice and accordingly punished.

Series of strong condemnation from the leaders around the world is directed against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in view of the death of at least 70 people which includes 10 children among the casualties.

It is suspected that the gas sarin which attack the nerves were use in the airstrike. The place of the aerial attack is said to be a rebel controlled area. They are fighting the regime of President Assad for his many abuses while in power.

Civilians Are Always The Casualties War

   In any kind of war such as this civil war going on in Syria, it is always the innocent men, women and children which are caught in the cross fire and eventually became casualties in this hellish war.

The gas attack against the civilian population is reminiscent of what Saddam Hussein has done to his people during the height of his power.

Any use of any chemical weapons in warfare is against International Law and International Conventions on the Laws of War.

This act of aggression against innocent civilians is considered crimes against humanity. The magnitude and gravity of the situation is such that the United Nations Security Council has called for a meeting concerning this recent incident.

In the modern world this act of barbarism of the Assad regime in Syria has no more places. It really deserves strong condemnation from all decent and well-meaning people all over the world.

But above all, the United Nation Security Council must pass a formal resolution not only condemning this mass murder but calling for a formal investigation on this matter so that a proper complaint could be filed against those responsible in the International Criminal Court.

The International Court of Justice is an International Court established in order to investigate, prosecute and try individuals accused for the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crimes of aggression.

Thus, it is clear that the International Court of Justice as an International Court and under the “Statute of Rome” has an exclusive jurisdiction concerning genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crimes of aggression.

At this early stage, an immediate and through investigation must be conducted concerning the chemical attacks to interview all the possible witnesses and gather all the necessary and relevant evidence.

Pending the investigation of the case against President Assad and other persons responsible for it, there must be a concerted effort on the part of the International Community particularly through the United Nations to see to it that this kind of incidents will not happens again in the future.

The help of Russia which is also a permanent members of the United Nations Security Council must be sought since it is the ally of Syria and has a participation in this on-going civil war in Syria.

    • I agree with you; but I need to be sure that the poison gas was dropped from the planes because if I was a Rebel, needing to turn the world against Assad, I'd have the gas, so that when one of his planes passes, I set it off and blame him.

    • That is very saddening. In any kind of war, the victims (collateral damage as they say) are always the civilians, many of them children, and it is so disheartening to see them suffer.
