As a Dog Returnth to it’s Vomit; another Episode of Twin Peaks

When you live in the 3rd or 4th world, you don’t get much television.   You miss thousands of shows.  Then, you learn you can watch television programs on line, you jump into the fray, watching those shows you’ve never seen, and the episodes of those which might have only appeared for one season in your country.

You watch all the hyped shows, or try to.

Twin Peaks was referred to, and so I went to watch it.

The pilot was pretty freaky, especially the last scene.

I watched the First Episode which was really crummy and the Second the Third and the Fourth. The reason I went to the Fourth is that the Third ended with that same freaky scene, but in this episode, the F.B.I. agent calls the Sheriff and says he just realised who the killer was.

So one has to watch the Fourth to find out the important information.

The first two minutes and ten seconds of every forty six/forty seven minute episode is wasted in the boring and slow moving opening credits.   It’s not a ‘previously on…’   it’s not scenes to set the stage, it’s just a boring slow glom of the environment.

Expecting to get the denouement I watched the Fourth Episode.

There was no denouement.  The F.B.I. agent, who is as wacky as the rest of the town had a ‘dream’… that ridiculous final scene with the dwarf and the blonde woman.

He said that these were clues.

So I set up to watch an episode I thought would end the idiocy, instead I plunged head first into more idiocy.

The funeral of Laura, the ‘MacGuffin’  of the show…(a MacGuffin is the point of the action, meaningless in itself, just a way to bring the threads together).. has all the repulsive citizens of Twin Peaks acting extra stupid. It’s almost funny, how they over react.

Then there’s a ‘secret society’ which the F.B.I. agent is exposed to, and then the plot thickens or sickens, for the cocaine connection is unraveling a bit.  But it’s so badly done.

This is the reason why many older shows which were held as ‘iconic’ then have become compost today.

    • I think there is value in being able to watch a series all through and see if it actually hangs together. People miss a lot if they see something week to week and think the series is better than it is. Twin Peaks is not one I ever watched and from what you say, I don't think I will bother. Youtube is a good source for old series. I have been watching "Upstairs Downstairs" about a family and their servants in the 1800's. It is an English family and gives an interesting insight into a period in history.
