The art of eating crabs

 

Seafood has always been my choice although I preferred eating them cooked myself. I never trusted any restaurant with seafood.

 

And when I  read about their  health properties I liked it even more The link below will tell you about the health properties of crabs.

 

It did not know among other things they had omega 3 – a cholesterol reducer and also were rich in protein Looking at seafoods one would have a totally wrong impression. No more. I shall try and keep them in my diet as far as possible.

Cockles are partially boiled and the flesh removed which again is washed in the liquid that oozes out. The liquid is then allowed settle and the sand slowly drained out.

 

When it comes to crabs it is a different story. One can be pretty messy while eating crabs You cannot eat them without making that sound when you suck out the flesh and juice. It is alright when just home people are around. A bit of bad manners there. But what when guests are around?

 

I remember an incident when my boss invited me over for lunch and his wife said there were crabs knowing that I liked them. I was nervous. How on earth could I do what I did in my own house. I decided to tell them at the table that I had a bad stomach and so crabs would be out for the day until I saw the crab salad. I need not explain how relieved I was. I did not refuse but had a good helping

 

I do the same when we have guests. I prepare what I call a Russian Salad, where crabs are boiled after crushing the claws,  the flesh removed and the usual stuff added – sliced boiled potatoes, slices of boiled beetroot, boiled peas, chopped coriander leaves, mayonnaise, salt and sugar to taste.

    • I love chilli crabs, a popular seafood dish in Singapore and Malaysia.
      Local crabs are smaller size than western crabs.
      It is an expensive seafood compare to fish.
      The price of a kilogram of crabs is similar to prawns.

      I do not have the heart to consume a live crab. I couldn't stand watching the crab crawling and the next minute, the poor fella is on the table.

      I have never tried a salad crab before but stir fry rice with crab flesh yes it was indeed a fragrant dish, that I had remembered.
