There are people who feel happy by having one specific area of interest, and all the life purposefully dive into the deep. However, there are also the workaholics – people whose brains are genetically encoded to be interested in many things, and to plunge for a long time into one of the activities is the same as to dry in a desert without a drop of water. Interests of Aristotle, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Leonardo da Vinci or Benjamin Franklin’s were really scattered. They freely were jumping from one project to the next and never finished some of their works even when they have been paid for them.
These days no one believed that it is bad to try to do everything at once. L. da Vinci had no thoughts to justify the fact that his interests included painting, architecture, sculpture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, anatomy, poetry, geology, astronomy, botany, history, literature and cartography. J. W. von Goethe also did not feel the slightest guilt, that wrote novels and at the same time he studied optics. All of them were actually true workaholics.
In the modern world people often look with skepticism to the workaholics people. They think that workaholic is a dilettante, mindless, distracted, not finding himself. It is estimated that it is impossible to make money for life, constantly changing activity and trying to embrace a bit of everything. After all it is clear that employers hire people for specific positions and require only a few, but deeply aware capabilities. However, how it is in reality?
Are you a workaholic? If you would like to describe themselves, quite likely that you are a special kind of workaholic. Are you a person who dives in a one career and in order to make higher scores tend to cover everything that excites your inquisitive mind?
Or you are person who settle down in one area, got fun there, and feel free to give up and go to the more attractive activity? That is why the surrounding thinks about the workaholics as about dilettantes and reproach for a number of unfinished works. However, such an assessment is not correct. Workaholics are not so ambitious or desperately seeking a goal as skilled specialists in one area, but it is because they are very eager to try everything and not afraid to make mistakes. More than anything in the world they are afraid of boredom. Workaholic the boredom perceives as a ship crash and tiny uninhabited island, where there is only one palm tree. He is suffocating without the use of his properties such as curiosity, creativity and learning. And this is not some kind of personality disorder or lack of will.
If you are workaholic, congratulations – you have the brain with lots of talents and you do not need to fit into any standard frames, to which probably the surrounding is trying you to squeeze in.
Future labor markets increasingly will need universal human, rather than a single expertise in the area, as more and more frequently is chosen to work in small teams or individually. Of course, those who create own business or employees on fixed-term contracts at home, the properties of workaholic can help to achieve higher goals and to earn more from individual activities. It is not enough just to be perfect in programming; you have to be at least a little familiar with many other areas.
Thus, the broader range of knowledge you have, the more you will see the world, and the greater the chance that you can do what you want.
The world needs workaholics, but they want to and are capable of so many things that are very often disrupted, cannot launch any single idea and often throw out without beginning. This encourages them to feel bad and cause great fear to die, without using up wonderful ideas.
The main concern of universal persons is constant endeavor to make decisions. In one study were monitored workaholics brains, where they were questioned about career choices, and then about their hobbies. Workaholics talking about new ideas, the part of the brain called an almond that controls anxiety, fear and other strong emotional feelings, quietly rested. However, after just started to get around one life’s choice selection, brain strongly became more active. So perhaps it’s time to relax a little and begin to do what you dream of. And not necessarily one thing. Perhaps you will succeed more if start few things at once.
Then you will not feel bad that working with a single idea, you cannot implement others. After all, people feel most successful and are satisfied when their activities are consistent with the natural talent and attitude to life. If the foundation of your being is multiplicity, diversity, constant change, and you have more than one talent, it is not necessary for you to choose a profession for whole life.
You can engage in a number of gainfully employed simultaneously. Take a look at everything in a creative way and do not be afraid to take responsibility for your unusual brain. Take advantage of them!
I do not think that, in fact you would like to explore everything in the world, or to work in all of the world works. Certainly there are things that you are not interested in; you do not have to achieve all possible careers. What will provide you the most pleasure? Think about your desired type of activity, whether it should be a freelance work, own business, working in a foreign company, or maybe all together?
All work can be valuable. This advice sounds pretty radical, but you do not have to complete all your projects. Do not give up on pleasure to at least try to implement wonderful ideas – perhaps you will imperfectly learn a new language, but will master the basics. Let some ideas will be just simply feast for your brain cells, while knowledge may someday be useful in life. Even before completing the project you can get a great deal.
Your heart knows the way to your desires and talents, and trusts it, and it will take you where you want it. And in no way ever foreswear your workaholism, but take the most of it. Lack of a vocation can be enchanting thing that makes you as original, innovative and fun man. Therefore, forget the teachers or the surrounding talk about one professional path. They encourage you to give up on a part of yourself and become someone you are not. Is this fair?
