Anxiety And Me

Everyone has feelings of anxiety every now and then, but when those anxious feelings start to invade your day to day life, it is time to take action. Anxiety can manifest in many different ways and each person is different from the next. People will experience different symptoms and may not realize that they are experiencing anxiety. There are many causes of anxiety and it is relative to the person and their reaction to the situation they are in.

Many may feel overwhelmed and find making a decision about a major event in their life difficult. This can result in the person experiencing a twinge of uncertainty which can manifest as a flutter in their stomach. They may feel ill if the nervousness continues for any length of time. These feelings may cause the person to steer clear of the whole situation, ignoring it, so they are not having the symptoms of anxiety. Although, this can make the situation much worse depending upon the level of importance of the situation.

I am all too aware of these feelings of anxiety and have been suffering with it pretty much my entire life. From the time I started school, I have experienced anxiety. I do not think that it was diagnosed by a professional, but I remember my stomach fluttering and twisting in knots at the aspect of starting school. School was something unknown to me and I feared what I would find when I went to the classroom with a stranger as my teacher and children that I did not know. I would be unable to eat breakfast and this worried my mother. I remember one day the school counselor had visited the classroom to talk to me about why I was having problems with my stomach and asked me about my experience in the class.

Being a young child, I did not have the answers for her and she left it at that which was the last time anyone asked me questions about my school experiences. I do know that I made friends, but I do not remember how those friendships came about. Of course, there were always other children who were not my friends and they were usually the ones who made fun of me for one reason or another. This did nothing to alleviate my nervousness about attending school.

I would bury myself in my studies so I did not have to dwell on the fact that I was insecure and socially inept at dealing with other people. Most of the ineptness I have out grown, but I still have social anxiety and do not like being in large groups of people that I do not know. I always feel awkward and at a loss as to how to conduct myself in crowds.

Stress can also contribute to feelings of anxiety and this is definitely true for me. It was not until I was taking care of my mother when she was ill that I sought help for my anxiety and depression which often goes hand in hand with anxiety. Or maybe it is the other way around, but at any rate, I consulted my doctor about my feelings. Medication helped, but it did not cure me from the anxious thoughts I was experiencing over the worry about my mother.

Over the years, I have learned to cope with my anxiety and since having children, I have tried to do things that would normally cause my to have anxious feelings. I want them to see me doing things that I do not want to do, so they will do the same.

    • Is it true that married women are easily affected by anxiety? While men don't or vice versa? Is anxiety caused by unbearable life's problem? Again, is it connected with too much depression? Or this so-called nervousness. Well, with these questions an expert should be asked for these.

Anxiety is not treated could lead to mental sickness. It could make a person becomes psychopath. And it is the worse thing for a person to experience. He would be a big liability to his family, to his children and even to the community where he lives.

      • @nakitakona13 I do not think that anxiety is more predominate in married women. I, myself, am not married and I think that men are just as susceptible to anxiety as women are. Anxiety can be caused by many different things including life's problems but I think it is something that you have because you do not necessarily are able to cope with the situations properly. I do not think that if anxiety is not treated that the person will become a psychopath. Anxiety usually causes a person to not want to be around people and can lead to a person becoming afraid to leave their house. This is called agoraphobia and it is the highest level of anxiety. I am not sure if I have answered your questions properly, but I have tried to the best of my ability and experience.

      • @nakitakona13 While statistics do show that women are more likely to experience some types of anxiety than men, I suspect this is mainly because women are more likely to be questioned about anxiety and encouraged to seek help for it, whereas men are encouraged to hide it because it is perceived as a sign of weakness (and therefore makes them less "manly.")

It is absolutely true that untreated anxiety can lead to complications, including suicide. But there is no reason to believe a person whose anxiety went untreated would develop psychopathy. These are very different types of disorders and fall into different classifications. The symptoms are not at all close.

    • Many people today suffer from anxiety. It's a high-pressure world, and one in which people are not generally nurtured but instead just expected to fit in with the established structure.

I suspect that much of the anxiety people experience could be treated without drugs, if we were to make some changes in society instead. Society needs to recognize the value of the introverts, and not just the extroverts. We also need to slow things down and place more emphasis on the family and on the well being of each person as an individual. I suspect if we could achieve this, we'd see much less anxiety all around.

      • I agree with you. Society is a big part of the reason behind anxiety and the issues it causes. I am definitely an introvert and this does not help when I have to do extrovert tasks. I would like if we could go back to a slower pace and just enjoy being together more often as a family. I have always felt that I was born into the wrong time period and feel that I belong in a time where it was slower and family was number one.

    • There are two types of anxiety one that is related to events around and one that is connected with the person's health. There are a few get panic and anxiety attacks even when there are no issues to deal.

The first type could be handled by doing some meditation and breathing exercises but the second needs medical intervention.

    • I think I have a sociai anxiety. Being in a crowd suffocates me. When I see people looking at me, negative thoughts are coming out from my mind. For example I will think that they are looking at me because I'm ugly or they are teasing me inside their head. It's really hard to be like this. Sometimes I pray not to see someone I know on the roads because I don't know how to approach them :(

    • Anxiety is the cause of doubts and becomes the part of human life when when man finds no way to solve any problem according to his own will and wishes, Anxiety is the matter of external factors but is the matter of internal factors but mot of the people do not know it well.

Everyone feels anxious now and then. It’s a normal emotion. Many people feel nervous when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or making an important decision.

he exact cause of anxiety disorders is unknown, but anxiety disorders -- like other forms of mental illness -- are not the result of personal weakness, a character flaw, or poor upbringing. As scientists continue their research on mental illness, it is becoming clear that many of these disorders are caused by a combination of factors, including changes in the brain and environmental stress.
