When we booked our cruise on Royal Caribbean’s, Jewel of the Seas, we had no idea what type of room that we got, other than it was a balcony room. We knew it wasn’t obstructed with anything, and that it was near the middle of the ship. We got the room at a fantastic price. Almost the price that we would have paid for an oceanview stateroom.
But when I started to search the internet, and the cruise forums about what the room looked like, I read “this is a HUMP room.” I had no idea what the heck type of room it was, at this point. I told my husband “We got a hump room?”, and he said “Cool, what’s that?” I said “I dunno.” It sure got me wondering though, of what is it, that people do in these rooms?
So, as I searched the internet, I found that a hump room, is a balcony that is located on the portion of the ship, that extends away from the side. Just like a hump. These rooms are very limited, and on this particular ship, they only had the hump on one side.
My photo shows where the hump is located, and the balcony that we had. If you ever cruise on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and the ship you’re cruising on, happens to have a hump, you do not want to miss out on this opportunity. It’s a fantastic room.
Also, most hump rooms have halls that lead into their room that is not connected to the regular hall that goes from the front to the back of the ship. This gives your room even more privacy.
I’m in hopes that our next cruise that we go on, the ship has a hump.

So it means aside from the room , you have a balcony that is exclusive to the room occupants? I can see from the picture why it is called hump room.
Is it expensive than all the rest of the room?
