When I posted my first blog on my own blog site on last Friday I read a comment wishing me a Happy Friday Message that I answered in a casual way telling him that I will be going out tomorrow for a special purpose. His next comment was about my Saturday’s plan. I was busy watching construction sites with one of my most close friends gathering new ideas.
I reveal it there that I am going to a nearby colony where the constructed first floor of a house just in 11 hours using technology and labor force provided by COFFOR Construction stay-in-place formwork technology Baroda, Gujarat, India. They will be doing the second story tomorrow and will finish it on Sunday in presence of their MD who will be here to handover the house to its owner in a function.
You can ask me at this point about what is COFFOR Technology? Actually it is all about use of lightweight structural formwork system to enable help carry the load bearing walls. The stay-in-place formwork helps reinforce the construction with stuffing extra material in between the frames and fold and cut them according to required size.
I have seen similar construction during my stay in Australia where they use timber in place of metal for construction of the structure; however they have started using metal also that saves house owners from annual pest control though.
It’s an entire new concept in home constructing in India but I know this is only one of the entire new construction systems emerging in the global markets. The best part of the whole idea is that the time required to construct a house will be reduced down to almost nothing compared to what it takes using orthodox methods.
Actually it all started on Wednesday the 24th February at 11 AM in a City Colony very near to my own housing complex. There were only 2 supervisors and 7 workers who did the entire structure using galvanized steel for framework that was finished within 6 hours. I am planning to do further research on this project and start something in collaboration of group of knowledgeable persons, and technicians.
The electricians and plumbers were at work simultaneously fitting pipelines and electric cables inside the frame of walls. They had finished their first phase of work by 5 PM. They have plans to finish the doors, windows and other sanitary related fittings and concreting and plaster work by the Saturday evening.
The company has invited everyone interested to watch live demo of COFFOR technology. I will not be available to watch the public function on Sunday when the house will be handed over to it owner but I will go to see them at work tomorrow.
The photo here is my own camerawork that I did in Sydney in May 2014 for a particular purpose as I wanted to use this technology to construct a house in my country for experiment purpose. Let me accept that it did not work for me because of lack of proper facilities and tools though.
