Birds need water to drink and to frolic around. In cities one hardly finds a resource where these birds can have that facility.
Garden lovers therefore can have a thought for birds and install a birdbath in their garden.
The birdbath should be tapered so that all sizes of birds can swim in there. Tiny birds will not come where this facility is not available.
There should be a groove around the basic to put bird seed if there are not fruit trees in the garden.
Next to the birdbath it is essential that there are a few low lying trees where they rest and preen their feathers.
The trees also provide shade that is required for birds to come to the birdbath anytime during the day. I notice they come around noon time when the sun is up. If there is shade around that can keep them in the bath longer.
A vigil should be kept so that cats do not catch them. I have often seen cats sitting under my bird bath and catching the birds. There have been a few sad instances. But some birds are smart. They will warn the other birds and are careful themselves.
Since the water in the birdbath is stagnant it needs to be replaced often and the basic scrubbed clean.
It is a joy to watch these birds visiting the bird bath. It is often the birds of a feather flock together pheonomena. Very rarely will I see different species getting together.
Even crows are seen coming for a bath although we are told crows are not clean. It is a joy to watch them. The water fowl a longer has a peculiar way of doing it. She dips in and out several times.

I don't own my home or live in a house but have seen residences with a bird bath or a bird bath. They are wonderful! The closest I come to enjoying birds is sprinkling some bread crumbs on the ground and waiting at a distance to see if they come to the feast! :)
If you have a camera with a zoom feature then you can click when they arrive. YOu will then be able to see them more clearly. I use the zoom feature because they will not stay if I come close to them.

Sure, birdfeeders attract lots of interesting birds, but at what price? Birdfeeders also attract squirrels, raccoons, and, in my town, bears. Who needs that?
Certainly not the birds. Keeping a birdfeeder stocked with seeds for birds to squabble over reminds me of how too much of America eats: with fast food so cheap and so universally accessible that people sit around, and worse, drive around, eating junk food as a pastime, with frightening results. Do you really want to do that to birds?
