Priyanka Chopra & Cate Blanchett: Women Orient Movies Champs

I loved Priyanka Chopra the 33-year-old actress, who is currently working on the second part of Quantico Oscar speech and her performance recently when she presented an award at the 2016 SAG awards and not only that but she also bagged top honors the People’s Choice Awards. I loved what she spoke at Oscar Award function, oh yes she was spot on. By the way, back in India it was her gown which became talk of the town.

Priyanka Chopra was also sole Indian representative at this year’s Oscar ceremony. This lovely Indian film star is sure ruling the Hollywood scene for time being. Priyanka was at annual White House Correspondents Dinner with US President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Priyanka Chopra was among some of Hollywood’s biggest names like Bradley Cooper, Jane Fonda, Lucy Liu and others to have been invited for the special dinner.

I am all sold for films with strong female leads are worthy. Audiences are not turned off at all watching their movies as some sources try to tell us that without men in lead roles the movies have lesser chances to attract crowds. Just because there is not a man in the main role does not mean that a film is going to be substandard.

Priyanka showed it in her movie “Mary Kom” the biopic of Indian female boxer May Kom. Priyanka has played the lead role with perfection. Priyanka did lot of hard work for Mary Kom, playing the role of a boxer running, jogging and practicing boxing. She met Mary Kom personally having long sessions of boxing and learning her mannerism.

Priyanka Chopra often reminds me of Cate Blanchett an Australian actress. Blanchett has also received international acclaim and many accolades, including two Academy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards although I am not aware if she has been invited to any dinner party in white house. In 2013, she starred as Jasmine Francis in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, for which she won numerous accolades including the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Just look at Blue Jasmine, Blanchett plays Jasmine as wounded, complex, angry yet so naturally and sympathetic. I think only Blanchett could play this role so lively. Cate Blanchett has done wonderfully well both as an actor and her Oscar speech was just as right as that of Priyanka Chopra.

When on the topic does anyone remember, Thelma and Louise Directed by Ridley Scott? That was also women oriented. Two friends wanted to have fun but had to run because one of them met a rapist and he was shot dead. That was the beginning of a great ‘fun on the run’ story.

Back to Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, she is one of the top stars in the international cinema and going at the top with a great speed with her popular American TV show “Quantico”. I would be happier if the Indian movie “Court” the only official entry in the best foreign film category for the Oscars 2016, could make it to the final five.
