Babysitting

Tomorrow (well Monday, in case Monday is when this blog gets posted) is when I get to start babysitting my favorite kids again! I’ve known their family for 3 years and have watched them since they were 7 and 9. Their family circumstances are very interesting. The parents are Polish immigrants – the mother finished high school here but their father immigrated as an adult. Both the children, the older is a boy and the younger is a girl, have Autism. Yes, how strange is it for both children to have Autism? Actually its more common than you may think. Having one child with Autism raises the risk of having a second child with Autism.

Both of them are awesome kids though and so easy to babysit. They just love to play, watch movies, and be on the iPad or computer like any kids now 10 and almost 12. The girl used to be the handful – she would throw a temper tantrum every day if I did not take them to swim in the neighborhood swimming pool. She would scream and cry, but I would ignore her until she stopped and she learned that throwing tantrums doesn’t work with me. Now she is much better behaved and only tantrums if she doesn’t feel well. Her brother is in to watching movies now – Despicable Me and Shrek are his favorites. He is very smart and does well in school. His dad likes to joke that his son can spell better in English than he can, and he will ask him how to spell words when writing.

His sister, she doesn’t do as well in school but is a social butterfly. She loves to interact with other girls her age and play. Their entire dining room is her playroom, filled with her toys and dolls. She has quite an impressive collection! I have to watch her though, because she loves the movie Frozen and enjoys making winter scenes…if she gets a hold of salt of sugar, it will go right on the carpet! She has to make due with white Play-Doh instead so the carpet doesn’t get ruined from her playing.

I get to spend almost a month and a half with them this summer! It also helps that I am very well paid for watching them.

    • Wow that's so nice. You know there are people who think that if you suffer from some condition you cannot work, but look at you, you have autism and are taking care of kids not one but two, you must be an angel to those kids. It's true that disability is not inability we all are equal in our own unique ways. Working for someone for 3 years is not a short time and you have done well may God richly bless the works of your hands

    • Oh you are great doing well for you and your families is spite of having so many difficulties at home and out of home but human courage and will power make men and women great will power is very strong you tackled every problem skillful and get over it

There's no doubt that babysitting requires skills in creativity, adventure, and play. But those skills are no help if you don't know what to do when a kid has a playground tumble or you're not prepared for the realities of a 2-year-old's temper.

Of course, money can be a problem for teens. It is what we all want, need, and often times, cannot get. Whether you want to grab T-pumps or go see a movie you need to have some cash. And if that cash is not just handed to you from your parents (which it is usually not), then there must be a way to earn it. Becoming a regular babysitter or even just babysitting every once in a while is a great method to take in some money. Though you probably will not have the income to take all your friends to see a movie, you can definitely rent one.

Babysitting children can also develop stronger social skills. Many adolescents feel like they are “awkward” and have trouble talking to people comfortably. When doing this job, babysitters have to talk to parents and other adults in a professional manner. In addition, the job includes playing with and spending time with kids for a number of hours, which requires appropriate social ability. Babysitting aids in developing better ability in communication.
