Song of the Day – Day 13 – Annie Lennox- No More I love You’s

Sorry I have been awol for an entire fortnight, I have been so so busy. I have been doing a lot of writing but unfortunately it was commissioned work for another site so I didn’t have any free time to write on this one unfortunately. I did make over £80 last weekend writing though so I can’t complain.

I must finish my daily songs list by the end of April as I wrote the list in the Aril section of my diary so I can’t go too far into May with it. On the flip side I can’t imagine I will manage to write 17 articles in 1 day so I might have to compromise somewhere.

This is number 13 and the song is No more I love you’s written by David Freeman and Joseph Hughes. It was originally released by their band ‘The lover speaks’ but it was made famous by Annie Lennox in 1995, it’s B-Side was Ladies of the Canyon.

Annie Lennox’s version was a chart success, charting in 18 countries. It hit number 1 on the US Dance charts, in Spain, Italy, and Canada as well as number 2 in the UK, Scotland and Ireland (Being from the UK I never knew Scotland had its own chart, now I am a bit jealous Wales doesn’t). It was certified Silver in the UK meaning it sold over 200,000 copies.

Here are the Lyrics:

used to be lunatic
from the gracious days
I used to be woebegone
and so restless nights
My aching heart would bleed
for you to see
Oh but now…
(I don’t find myself bouncing home whistling
buttonhole tunes to make me cry)

No more “I love you’s”
The language is leaving me
No more “I love you’s”
Changes are shifting outside the word

I used to have demons in my room at night
Desire, despair, desire, so many monsters
Oh but now…
(I don’t find myself bouncing home whistling
buttonhole tunes to make me cry)

*No more “I love you’s”
The language is leaving me
No more “I love you’s”
The language is leaving me in silence
No more “I love you’s”
Changes are shifting outside the word

They were being really crazy
They were on the come.
And you know what mammy?
Everybody was being really crazy. Uh huh.
The monsters are crazy.
There are monsters outsides.

Outside the word

    • I heart Annie Lennox. Even recognized and accomplished singer/songwriter/musician Sting paid her a compliment.
