Cancer is a word we don’t like to use. It’s scary and serious business. Contributing factors are our life style, the environment and our genes. An estimated 600,920 people will die of cancer in 2017 and there will be an estimated 1,688,780 cancer cases will be diagnosed. But, there are some obvious things we need to avoid to fight against getting cancer.
Don’t Smoke– Second hand smoke has been proven to be as risky as smoking. It is estimated that about 158,000 people die of lung cancer annually . There are 4,000 chemicals found in cigarettes 51 of which are known to be carcinogenic.
Lead Exposure– Cancers such as colon, rectum, kidney, bladder and brain are attributed to exposure to lead. Lead can be found in old paint from buildings built before 1978, bridges and in drinking water. Smoke from cigarettes also contains lead.
Asbestos– This extremely fine fiber that used to be used in shingles, pipe insulation and flooring. If you think you have some in your home call on an accredited professional to remove it.
Radon– The U.S. EPA estimates that 21,000 people die from lung cancer caused by radon poisoning. It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in rock, soil and water. It can get in through walls, floors and even in the water supply. It is a good idea to have your home tested.
Synthetic Fragrances– The chemical that helps to make plastic flexible is called Phthalates. This is also what carries fragrances. These are also found in cosmetics, baby care products, insecticides, and food packaging. They enter the body by being absorbed by the skin by some medical procedures and body inhalation.
Styrene foam– This carcinogenic chemical is in polystyrene foam. It is used in take out containers, Roman noodle cups and coffee cups. It is said to damage white blood cells. It increases the risk of getting lymphoma and leukemia. It breaks down to small pieces that get eaten by wild animals and fish.

I agree with you Eve. But, people are unable to tackle the gravity of the situation. They can reverse the situation taking effective steps. Even then, the capitalists are there to discourage such applications and use of technology. There are various voluntary organizations working towards the eradication of such usage. But, this is not sufficient. People with the active cooperation of the educated should come forward and approach the Governments for making effective law for minimizing the spread of poisonous elements into the atmosphere.
