Song of the Day – Day 4 – Sweet Child of Mine – Guns ‘n’ Roses

This is song 4 on actual day for, let’s hope day 5s are on the right day now. This song was on the 1987 Appetite for Destruction album but wasn’t released as a single until August 1988. Those were the day’s hey not knowing about a song for 8 months if you didn’t buy the LP. Music has become a bit too accessible now it doesn’t seem as special anymore, but that’s a topic for another day and another blog.  The song was written about Axl Roses then girlfriend Erin Everly and was written in one afternoon.

The song was a huge success and reached number 1 in the US and number 6 in the UK. It was certified Platinum in Italy, Platinum in the UK and Platinum in the US.  It is also number 198 in the Rolling stones top 500 greatest songs of all time, number 6 in Q Magazines greatest Guitar Hits and number 210 on the RIAA Songs of the century.
