SELECTING A GOOD SPRAY GUN FOR HOME

As a part of my painting job, I  realized the importance of a paint sprayer to complete the job up to my satisfaction and to my desired level of expectation. The reason being that most of the painters are either semi-educated and uneducated devoid of any aesthetics. If an owner wants him to spray in a particular design they either spoil it or they may avoid it. It is always safe to purchase one and do the work for ourselves.

Another reason is being unaware of the new products entering into the market. When a particular spray gun was inquired in the market they blinked their eyes and replied ‘NO sir. Not available in the markets of Hyderabad’. It has become to inquire about it drawing their attention to a particular Advertisement shown regularly on the T.V. Even then a big NO was the only response.

Whatever may be the reasons for their ignorance of the product or lack of working up to our expectation, it is imperative to know something about the spray guns available now in the market nowadays when we want to enjoy the painting work at home to give a more attractive look to the old furniture at home.

There are two types of Paint Spray guns available in the markets now

Airless Spray Gun

HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray Guns.

Airless Spray guns are used mostly by professionals for a big painting job. They work very fast. They can be used for any kind of paint. The paint need not be made thin by adding Thinner or Turpentine Oil. They provide uniform painting even on a wide variety of surfaces. They need a compressor which should be connected to the end of the Spray Gun. Masking of the face is not required.

Another type of Spray Gun is HVLP spray gun which requires thinning of the paint. These are used for home purposes and DIY projects. Masking of the face is required as a protection from poisonous air and allergic smells. The advantage of HVLP spray gun is that it transfers a large volume of paint to the painting surface.

While buying a paint spray gun the following may be taken into consideration without any hesitation.

Observe whether it is functioning as per the user manuel or not.

Whether the nozzle is properly fixed or not

Whether the paint is released uniformly or not

See that the paint build up is not there. For this start a stroke before the trigger is pulled and stop painting after releasing the trigger.

To achieve smoothness, always a proper standard distance shall be maintained. The ideal distance from the painting surface should be  6-8 inches. Always you should know that the ideal speed required for moving the spray gun is 3 inches per second. Whether this can be achieved or not should be verified by asking for a demonstration of the piece you are purchasing.

Sometimes, the motor of the spray gun will give you more noise than the paint released. There must be a balance between the two. This comes by experienced only.

The paint sprayer should have a belt to hang it on to our shoulder while painting on surfaces at more than 7-10 ft high.

The nozzle of the spray gun is coming with a feature of verticle painting and horizontal painting and dot painting. This will be more useful for painting jobs at home. It reduces the work of painting and time of painting as well. This can be used a variety of designs also.

Nowadays no spray gun is available with a guarantee. Hence, see if there is any warranty given on the piece.  But only some Netherland products are coming with a 6 months warranty.

We should also see whether it adds up to the cleaning job after the paint work is over. The less the cleaning of the spray gun the more comfortable it would be. We should see whether the cleaning of Gun is tedious or easy.

The most important part is the wattage and the weight of the Spray gun.

A lightweight spray gun can be used comfortably for watering plants also in the garden.

We should always see whether the nozzle is adjustable or not.
