Setting up a Bookkeeping Business on your own – A scary thing to do.

I am an AAT qualified bookkeeper, and have been doing off bookkeeping jobs for years, for friends and family, although I have only worked in the finance sector for 18 months. My plan all along while completing my qualifications was to set up my own business. It’s always been a very exciting prospect for me, but now that the time has come it is terrifying.

I have started making my Facebook page and my website, although I haven’t published the website yet, and it is just so daunting putting yourself out there like that. I know I am more than capable of performing the work I am offering and I have made sure only to offer things I am 100% confident in, but you still get that nerve wracking feeling of ahaaa that if I mess something up. That’s what nerves will do to you I guess.

I am specialising in bookkeeping and financial services for the self-employed, agency workers and small businesses. I am more interested in agency workers and the self-employed if I am honest as I find that is where you can save people the most money on their tax bill which is ultimately what I want to do.

There are so many things that self-employed people can claim for that they don’t realise and I hate the thought of hard working people throwing away their hard-earned money on unnecessary tax bills. This is even more true of agency workers, I would say that 70%+ of agency workers I have met in my life don’t even fill in a tax return or even a P87. These are just the basic things that they should be doing to knock potentially £1000s of their tax bill.

Hopefully though once I am fully set up and established I can start saving people loads of money 😊

    • Congratulations in putting up your own bookkeeping business! It is not easy to start up a business.

Is this bookkeeping business of yours, open to an online job?

Accounting is my major but I failed thrice on my CPA Board Exams. But I love doing bookkeeping work. I miss tinkering with the old school calculator. :)

I tried online bookkeeping job but they need experience in Quickbooks and Xero Acctg. These are new to me. But to know a little on this, I even downloaded the Xero Acctg. practice set, but I have a hard time understanding it.

Is it possible for you to 'teach' the Quickbooks & the Xero Acctg.? Maybe you can do it as an article style here at LB and earning at the same time with your info.

Congratulations and wishing for your success in this business venture.

      • Thank you, fingers crossed it will be successful.
It stands for the Association of Accounting Technicians. It took me two years and 12 exams to complete but it was very good. I am quite good with Quick Books but haven't worked with Xero before. I have the most experience with Sage which is a little annoying as it is not so popular anymore.
I am expecting most of my work will be relatively remote but within the UK so that people can still post me documents if they need to.
I guess I could do some lesson type posts it would be a good way to keep up my knowledge.
        :)

        • wowww, 12 exams for a two-year program! that is tough.

You could consider me an 'old woman' with my bookkeeping experience. But I do really want to have an online bookkeeping work.

I will try to learn more about quickbooks.

Is it possible for you to out source some of your very basic bookkeeping jobs, so you could provide online jobs for anyone interested?

Just asking only, you don't have to be pressured with this query.

    • good luck , finger crossed sister,, its so hard and wish you the best, tell us please later abut it its alway nice to learn new business to make more income, or better to say make some income, wow have you started to earn from it
