They are called the “oldies,” the old members of the family with ages from 60 and above, and how do you treat them?
They maybe in their twilight years, 80’or 90’s, but in such a status, do you give them “light,” care and happiness?
I had seen a lot of very old people being neglected by their families. I pity them. Is it because they are no longer productive? Are they already a burden? Their children do not understand them, why they act the way they do, becoming moody and irritated; repeating questions or instructions again and again.
Understanding Them
When old persons become senile, this could be the hardest stage of life. Some of them might not understand it too, how much more the young people around them? They think that the old person is just acting up to call for more attention. During this stage, the old person’s family should be more understanding, more patient in caring for him. This is the time when the old person needs the attention of his loved ones.
They can never tell if the old person will last for so many years, so in that undertain time, give him the best love you can give him. This is just to consider the time when the old person was so productive and he also gave all his time to for his family’s needs.
Home for the Aged
People these days are so busy to take care of their old relatives; whether he is a parent or a sibling. So if they have some money, they leave the old member in the care of hospice homes or home for the aged.
It could be hurting both for the person and his relatives, but sometimes practicality rules. When no one could look after the old person on a whole time basis, then the best thing to do is have him in the care of the hospice home. There, they can be given his needs, socialization, even spiritual needs.
This is in the case of well-off families. But how about the poor ones? It is a pity sight to see a very old, weak person alone all day in his house. Sometimes he has no food, is very dirty because he can no longer attend to his personal needs. Sometimes his relatives totally abandon him. They are so heartless, leaving a very old man or woman alone, helpless!
They should think that one day, or in the future, they too will have the same fate when they became so old. They will also be senile and it is good if there is someone in the family who will have a good heart to take care of him. They should think about the saying “what comes around, comes around!” or whatever you had done to others will also be done to you, that is the law of karma.

Yes elders in the society are not cared for and valued much these days. Till the time they are find and are of use to the children they are very good and appreciated by one and all but once the problems start with age children also change their attitude and all the love and affection which used to exist goes out for a toss. It is very sad to see elders left at old age homes or left to rot outside the house as the children consider as nothing but a burden and of nuisance value.
I doubt if one can expect anything from the present generation. As many are unable of taking care of their own children and families. Elders have to invest time and take good care of their health and be physically and mentally alert to face all problems in life on their own. Only a handful of children take care of their parents in the way they should. It is difficult to imagine this generation doing such kind acts as majority seem to be self centered. Thanks for the share.
It is saddening that the young generation care less for their elders. You are right, parents or elders should had planned enough for their old age; they should keep some money for their own expenses when they grow old. This is to be sure that they will enjoy what they had labored for so many years; they deserve a happy retirement.
elder is our crown and worked for us more than we can do for them their life style was tyrning and we are having better life, and lot of our and newer generation has no respect and feel that they are good without us and they will live for ever, i really hate it when they think like this and in the future yea they will be sorry, and feel how our elder felt now, God help us and them in this un controlable generations, thanks to the nice touchy super post
