My state government’s decision to provide hospitals patients’ all data online in the government sector is a major step in the direction of making medical facilities better and transparent that was a long demand from different sectors in healthcare field. It all started with online reports provision of ultrasound and pathological reports in government hospitals and now the hospitals will provide all patient related data.
In fact, more than 50%government hospital have already started providing the facility under the state health system strengthening scheme in collaboration with private sector high end laboratory tests. From now on every registered patient will be registered with a slip having high end coding, appointment time with diagnostic report and time mentioned.
The detailed report will be uploaded on patients’ diagnostic information system available to patient online that would be available to patients with their ID, name and city in which the hospital is located. Patients now will be able to printout detailed report without going to the hospital which will save them time and money in the process. The state government has plans to add 10 more government hospitals with patients’ diagnostic information system within next three months.
The online patients’ diagnostic information system will be a relief for patients in more than one way first the patients will get all their medical data at their homes and as the data will remain in system that could be utilized in future. The other more important factor making the reports available online will improve the quality of lab tests and certainly help lowering the number of false reports which are common in government hospitals.
There is still need of many changes in our healthcare system but the new system will put an effective check on corruption that was wide spread in the system so far. Maybe provision of online availability will bring the system back on track. However there is lot to be done in this field especially providing this facility to hospitals in smaller towns and village level.
