Sri Lanka Batted well to wipe Zimbabwe out of CWC 1999

In the 14th match of the ICC cricket world cup, Sri Lanka was against the Zimbabwe team. This game was played on New Road, Worcester, England on 22nd May, 1999.

Zimbabwe Started strongly but couldn’t capitalize and keep losing wickets at regular intervals of the game. Grant Flower top scored with 42runs in 69 balls with 64’s and strike rate of 61 runs in 100 balls and Zimbabwean Wicket keeper Batsman Andy Flower also made 41 runs in 60 balls with 3 4’s and strike rate of 68 runs in 100 balls. Zimbabwe managed to score 197 runs in allotted 50 over’s at the loss of 9 wickets.

Sri lankan team were required to score 198 runs in 50 over’s to won this game.

Sri lanka started badly and lostb their best batsman S jayasuria early at the team score of 13 runs in 5.4 over’s. But after that dismissal Sri Lanka batted calmly and completed the target in 46 over’s at the loss of 6 wickets. M atapattu top scored with 54 runs In 90 balls with 4 4’s at the strike rate of 60 runs in 100 balls and M Jayawardena and R Mahanama also scoring 31runs each with 4 and 3 4’s respectively to their credit.

So Sri Lanka won the game by 4 wickets with 34 balls still remaining in the game.
