Angry Birds the Movie

I thought with Angry Birds the movie about to be released on May 20th that I would do a quick review of the popular game that led to it becoming a world franchise.

There are not many more stories of success in the game marketplace then Rovio’s Angry Birds, this game debuted on the iPhone and quickly became the darling of the game marketplace. It also proved that the mobile market could be a profitable place to market a game. At an initial offering of $1.99 on the iPhone, Angry Birds has made millions in the marketplace. It has also moved to other platforms, such as the Android market, the Wii, and the Playstation portable. Rovio has also offered several advertising driven versions of the game, such as Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons.

So what makes this game such a runaway success? Rovio seems to have hit the sweet spot of the best game apps with simplicity of mechanic, while building an addictive gameplay style. In brief, the player slingshots various birds at a castle made of precariously balanced blocks, in order to drop them on the heads of pigs inside that have stolen their eggs. From that basic, and actually somewhat silly scenario they add layers of complexity by giving the various birds different powers that change the ways they hit the blocks, as well as giving the blocks different materials, so that they react differently when hit.

The game is ridiculously addictive, as some of these puzzles are very difficult to complete given the birds for any particular level, much less get the three stars possible on each level. It is some credit then that you keep going back to try that one last level, sure that you have gained some insight that will let you get those elusive three stars. Rovio has managed to develop a runaway hit, with a fantastic balance of gameplay, difficulty and personality. Since they continue to issue updates adding more levels and modes it doesn’t look like we will run out of Angry Birds anytime soon.

If Angry Bids the movie enjoys even a fraction of the success the game did, the producers will be rolling in dough.

    • This Angry Birds game was once played by me. I played the first, the second, the third time, but I had not made it. I never tried it again. I admired my grandson, my youngest son and daughter who have a lot of patience in playing the said game. I don't know why I don't want to play it again for I am bored or I am old enough that my pulse couldn't be controlled. It could be the timing which I could make it.

Anyway, let's go to the movie of this popular game. This could be not only for the kids, but also for the adults. I want to see this movie.
