If They Come for Me in the Morning…

Although quoted in relation to Angela Davis, and the events of the 1960s, the term goes back to the 1930s…

“They came for the Jews in the morning, and I said nothing.  They came for the Communists in the Afternoon, and I said nothing.  They came for me in the night…”

What we see today in the United States under the current President is not to be placed in a box marked ‘limited’ but understood in its completion.

To go after people who arrived in America from one of the Seven listed countries,  and send them back, is not to be seen as limited to those Seven listed countries.   Once the door of intolerance is opened, even a crack, it will be kicked off its hinges.

It will not be limited to arrivants from the Seven Listed Countries, it will go after those already in America, from those countries, as well as those from other countries.

Going after a small segment to ‘test’ the level of compliance, Trump has much more in mind.  His ‘final solution’ is to get rid of all those he can; from a Jamaican to a Bolivian, to a Somalian who has been in America for a decade.

The idea is to Make America White Again.   To have a large population of White Christians, and small populations of ‘Others’.

People who have a Green Card, but have not taken citizenship.   People who are in America on a Work Visa.   And, of course, Muslims.

Recently, there was a Syrian Woman, a Trump supporter, who was at the airport when her family was shipped back to Syria.

The BBC did an interview with a leader of the Conservative Republican Muslims; die hard supporters of Donald Trump.  The incredulity in the voice of the interviewer was palpable.

Here was a woman, the leader of a group of Muslim women, who supported Donald Trump.  Who voted for him.   Can there be a more misguided group alive today?   That would be like having Black Supporters of the Ku Klux Klan.

The inability of people to see themselves as they are seen, to appreciate how they are viewed by those in power, had led, all through history, of persons watching ‘them’ come for others in the morning, and they being take at night.

Although the travel ban was not reinstated, do not rejoice.   There are more hurdles to jump and it is likely that Trump will, in one way or another, get his way.
