What if your other one and you are both work from home?

We all know how to deal with the colleague when we are working in the office, but what if both of you and your husband/wife are self employed, work from home, how to deal with your “other half” colleague without reducing both work productivity?

First, set up the work station for each. Try to make each a separate work station, if your house has ample space to have set up two separate reading rooms, it is good to make each a separate space for working without disturbing.

Once you are in your work station, your other one will automatically know you are busy with tasks and would not like to be disturbed until you are get out from the work station.

Second, inform your other half about your working schedule earlier, or jot down in the family event white board. Again, this is to make sure your other one would not disturb you during working and won’t invite you for eating out or request you to prepare meals when you are busy. Even, you might get her/him to prepare the meal or buy you the meal, or fetching the kids.

Third, if you find you can’t concentrate at home even you are in your own work station, or you just have a quarrel with your other one, which made you don’t want to see her/his face for short while. And, staying together under the same roof made your feel uneasy, you may go out for half day break.

You may bring along your documents and laptop , and drive to a café nearby for a coffee break, take a deep breath, and relax. More important, you may continue your work here with just spend a little money on a cup of coffee.

Again, you may always discuss with your other one on how to make each other feel good and  can concentrate on work at home , in turning to higher productivity.

    • Ok. I agree with you. The less we talk the less will be the quarrel. If there is any quarrel for a short while it only makes them coming out of their emotions and make them healthy as most of the times both will be conversing online only.

    • That is really a nice set-up for couples who are both self-employed and are just at home working.

True, each one should have their workstations and have their own space. Having the same workstations can muddle up their works specially when there are a lot of documents to deal with.

Having a board of each one's work schedule will also facilitate each one's ease in understanding the busyness of each one at the designated hours thus needs not be disturbed and won't hurt the other one, when he doesn't answer to her queries and vice versa.

    • THAT WAS NICE TIPS FOR COUPLES WHO ARE BOTH WORKING AT HOME. IT IS ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE THEIR OWN WORKING ROOMS/STATIONS AS YOU HAVE SAID. AND ALSO I AGREE THAT BOTH SHOULD TALK ABOUT THEIR SCHEDULES.

    • It would be great to work at home with your husband\wife . but you have to make sure your not disturbed cause its not to easy to focus with your love ones around and take things a serious as you would if they weren't around. And I agree when having your own two separate environments to work in you can get your job done better.
