I expected other people to mention the significance of this date. But the day is almost over so I will write about what happened.
This is the day, the 22nd of November, that in 1963, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the President of the United States of America was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas.
John F. Kennedy was popular all over the world. Whether you lived in Africa or the Caribbean or Europe or South America, he brought a kind of hope. And his death was taken very personally by many people all over the world.
Everyone had a story about where they were, what they were doing when John Kennedy was shot.
A next door neighbour had been at the Race Track at the time and told me how big men got down on their knees and began to pray.
Another person had been in the supermarket when someone shouted out and she left her cart and walked home in a daze.
People who were on the road described seeing crowds just standing and crying. Standing there waiting as if someone would come by and tell them it would be alright.
Everyone was crying. I was crying. We all felt scared and empty. It seemed something more happened than just one man being killed.
There are some people who bring dreams with them. They aren’t just leaders in political realms, they inspire. John F. Kennedy was one of them. He had many good ideas and effected a lot of people. Not just in America.
He was killed and then the man who is said to have killed him was also killed. It is said that man acted alone. Just all by himself figured out where to go, what to do, just so.
Since the assassination of John Kennedy, there have been many ‘conspiracy theories’ about who and what and why. Some are more believable than others.
But he’s still dead and gone with him were all the dreams.

It's not a day America likes to remember. For me the saddest part is the huge question mark that's plastered all over the pages of America's history. Who killed John Kennedy? We have had other presidents who were assassinated. But we know who did it! Kennedy's wife and son have both gone to their graves not knowing the answer. It's more depressing than the assassination itself because if the highest official never got closure over a matter that sent him to his grave, how can ordinary citizens think there's “justice for all”. We want to believe in the ideal. But our own president didn't get justice. For all intents and purposes, his murder case is still unsolved.
I want to believe the 'official' story... but there are so many 'holes' in it. One man, by himself, for no reason just goes up into this building with a gun?
I suppose we will never know.
