Why Waste Anger on What ?

A number of years ago I was having an argument with a guy called Gordon.   A chap called Jeffrey asked me to step over for a moment.

I left Gordon, took the twenty steps to Jeffrey and he, point blank, asked; “Do you really care what Gordon thinks?”

The question took me aback.  After a few seconds I admitted, “No.”

“So why are you arguing with him?”

Yes, why?

It is one of those Epiphany moments in life that cause a ‘reboot’.   That cause you to think about your responses and focus.

If you don’t care what someone thinks, why argue?   If you are not going to change their mind, back up.

A friend of mine, a Black Jamaican ex-pat who is in America on Contract performing a specific job for a major company, supported Donald Trump.  He can’t vote, but his fingers were on overdrive as he filled Facebook with rubbish.

A lot of people, even myself, made a post or two to ‘educate’ him.  He continued to boost Trump.

So I commented to another, “When Trump slaps a tax on the company for hiring expats and he loses his job, maybe he’ll understand.  Maybe not.”

My friend stopped blathering.

The reason I made the extra effort was because he was a friend of mine. I cared.  Others? Hey there are Muslims who voted for Trump.  I can’t be angry because they are stupid.  That’s their right.

Why should I be angry because people are stupid?

I can’t be angry at something I can not change or effect.  It’s a waste of emotion.  Shrug and think of what I can do and can’t do.

At the dorm the kitchen is full of maggots.  The slob they hired to ‘clean’ doesn’t do a good job.  We all know it.  The girls from room 10 were cleaning, I came out and helped, and now the kitchen should be maggot free.

Sure we could have stood around making a lot of noise, but we didn’t.  We just did what needed to be done, and I made some jokes about it.

Sure, it’s really something that they would hire such a worthless lazy gal to be helper, but we have to live here, so we cleaned the kitchen.  We aren’t angry.

If you have low blood pressure then getting angry is a good thing.  You elevate your pressure to normal.  But if you don’t, if you are like most people, who seem to have high pressure, it isn’t very smart.

Firstly, to be angry over something you can do nothing about is a total waste. Secondly, to be angry over something you can do something about is wasting energy that could be better focused.

So, we cleaned the kitchen, and went about our day.

    • You are right. Why do we need to argue if things can be solved. The time of finding a solution for certain dilemmas is better than consuming oneself over nothing. For some reason, I don't usually argue with someone or somebody if not serious.I prefer to do my thing than wasting time. Some of my former colleagues do this and ignore them.As long as I am not involved with their ranting moment. If ever, that would be another story to deal with.

    • An angry man is a mad man any day. One should be able to control is anger. The strongest man is he who is able to control is anger however the weakest man on earth is he who cannot control is anger. The reason the world is in the state it is today (war everywhere) is because some people were unable to control their anger at some point in life of this world. That is my humble submission.

    • Anger is the fume of depressed soul and its expression appears on human mind in shape of anger in practical field. Anger is a natural human emotion, and it’s not always negative. It can help you know when you’ve been hurt or when a situation needs to change. It's important to learn how to process and react to your anger.

Frequent feelings of anger have been linked to higher risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, depression and difficulty sleeping. This is especially possible if you experience highly explosive anger or your anger is extremely repressed. Fortunately, you can learn to understand, process, and release your anger in healthy ways.

When you’re feeling angry, doing some moderate exercise could help you. A study by the University of Georgia suggests that moderate exercise (such as running or riding a bike) during or immediately after an upsetting experience can help you manage the experience of anger.

When you exercise, your body releases endorphins, which are natural "feel-good" chemicals that make you feel more positive and happy. If you're unable to run or ride a bike, consider walking, stretching, and other easier forms of exercise.
