One of my all-time favorite songs is “where is the love” by black eyed peas. I love this song because it makes you think about why the world isn’t a peaceful place. Every time I listen to the song, I just can’t help closing my eyes and appreciate the lyrics. The first sentence is of the song already get you hooked, it started from an innocent perspective (that of a child). For those who don’t know or remember the first sentence, it is “What’s wrong with the world mama”. Now picture your child asking you this question. What would be your answer and what would be your feelings at that moment. If my child asked me this, I would be hart broken because it means my child has lost a bit/part of his or her innocence. It would mean they have noticed that the world can be a dark place.
The next part of the song talks about how anger and discrimination makes you drift further away from the term “LOVE”. By becoming angry you will become irritated and are bound to act out through destructive means. Discrimination on the hand is a form of hatred; you might even call it a product of hatred. And we all know that the opposite of love is hatred.
The song also talks about religion. For those of you that are fanatically religious this part you might not like, because it questions your religion or devotion to it. It does this in the form a Christian saying why humans don’t practice what they preach mainly turn the other cheek.
It follows the previous part by discussing how we are poisoning the planet and children. We do this through the use of bombs or uncontrolled industrialization. The song also mentions why we do this namely because we are chasing after money.
The next verse is my favorite part: The black eyed peas sing about when people start growing up, they become colder. This means that they care less about their fellow man and more about money (making). The media also influences this by only showing tragic and hate inciting images. The best example is Muslims, sure there are a few extremist but that just a small number compared with the total number of Muslims. With these negative images the media infects the minds of young children. After all we know that children are easier influenced than adults.
So in the verse it asks what happen about our values; humanity, fairness and equality. Because the only thing the media is showing is animosity that incites the masses. Which is leads us further away from a united front. Although this all very depressing, you still got to keep faith till love is found that is the message.

This is one of my favorites songs by that group. I think it's the only song of theirs that I really like, for the various reasons you stated in your post. It is a social commentary about how problems in the world could be cured if we had love for one another. Nice post! :)
It is one of the best song when I read it in lone yea, a nice song exposing the reality of hollow human and d what we say and what we do in real life.
we always say how we want to change the world and i always use the line we never "practice what we preach". and then we look away towards other things to fill our heart with, things that will in the end back stab us. it will never help us to fall in love with texting, we wont go anywhere in life. we should fill our hearts with something that will change the world. one person at a time.
then we turn our hearts away from those in other countries that do not have what we have and i have done it plenty myself, we discriminate against them call them stupid and we ignore others pain and we live like there never an ended. and then we go and cause more drama.
if we would only look towards the hurt for a couple minutes every day it could make the difference of a life.
so basically it is a prayer that we will realize what we are doing to make others suffer. and its asking why do we do the things we do. why are people so hurtful. we all need to just look to God to show us the right path.
