Auckland Airport, New Zealand Experience

Hi guys? I just want to share you my life here in a foreign land. I arrived in Auckland on October 24, 2016, at 5:15 in the afternoon. I was so horrified when I reached the Auckland airport, simply because my friend and her hubby promised me severally that they are going to pick me in airport. So sad, it took me 45 minutes to wait and no one arrived to pick me. The worst thing was, I did not have NZ dollar. I only have with me Philippine money. I supposed to buy, but I was told by my friend no need for they will surely come to Auckland airport to meet and pick me. I was so scared, for the location of my stay in Auckland is so far. But then, presence of mind is the best solution to a sudden problem. I thought for awhile what to do. I approached a taxi driver and told him to bring me to my destination and be paid when arrived there. But the driver said, “No,” pay first. Then I said back to him, can I pay you through credit card? He said, “No”, it should be cash for he does not have credit card machine.

Suddenly my mind told me to inquire inside the “help desk” if I can convert my Philippine money to NZ dollar, I was told, “Yes” then she pointed the area so very near me “ Flight Center Unbeatable Office. One Croatia man rented a small space for him to serve plane passengers arrival and departure.

My P2, 000 pesos was converted to $ 50 NZ dollars. I was so happy for God dictated me what to do. I hired a taxi and the money was only good enough for the fare from Auckland airport to Tawa Road, Onehunga Street the place where I stay. My friend arrived and asked for an apology. She told me she and her hubby was there waiting me at 4:30, but so bad, they waited me in the opposite end which is the departure area. They will never see me there for I was in the Way Out, Arrival area.

Conclusion: It is not good to travel without money and presence of mind is so vital in a strange place. Thank you for reading.

    • That was one among my desperate experience in my life nobody met me in the airport and no NZ dollar money only Philippine pesos.I was so thankful of myself for having thought about the best solution to that worst experience. I considered it worst because it is not easy to deal waiting for nothing. I was expecting my friends to be there in the gate, only to feel the dismayed feeling.
Yes they were there in the airport as what they said, but they were in the other end in the departure area so far from the arrival area, LOL.

    • The next time I go to Auckland, I have to make sure that I always have with me some NZ dollars so that I won't have a hard time searching for money changer. The one that changed money may not be on that same location again.

Also, good news, my best friend, refund my $50 and bought me good for $78 dollar Chocolates.
It seems her conscience tortured her , hehehehe.

    • I missed these trees now. I am back home and arrived Philippines November 12 and I missed this road with lovely trees so much.We always pass this road when go to Cornwall park.

My heart feels sad and remembers every moment we all shared there in Auckland.
