How to Keep Bad Cholesterol down the natural way

In the good old days no one knew what cholesterol was all about. My mother lived upto the age of  90 plus without checking her cholesterol levels. But these days there is the  Damocles Sword hanging over our heads because information is available on what high cholesterol levels do to us and what should be the standard levels. I sometimes wonder whether ignorance is bliss as in the case of my mother.  It is too late now to believe  that ignorance is bliss when we are now exposed to knowledge.

Now that we have a duty to perform a duty to keep our cholesterol in check there are natural ways this can be done rather than being  on medication. Cholesterol medication has side effects specially the muscle weakness that one experiences.

Some of the natural ways to keep the bad cholesterol in check are as follows:

  1. Walking exercise increases HDL the good cholesterol
  2. Drinking red wine five times in a week helps increase HDL – my doctor has recommended me that
  3. Eating too many eggs need to be kept in check as the yellow of the egg contains a lot of bad cholesterol
  4. Eating foods that contain a lot of fibre cleans away the fat that accumulates in the veins – oats seems to be the answer
  5. Olive oil or sun flower oil should be in one’s kitchen. Nowadays one hears a lot about rice bran oil too
  6. Avoiding butter and ghee could go a long way in keeping the bad cholesterol in check
  7. Nuts are said to contain omega 3 – specially walnuts
  8. Fish eaters could go for cheap fish mackerels and sardines
  9. Cod liver capsules taken regularly help reduce triglycerides
  10. And last but not the least a regular blood test to see the levels of cholesterol can give one the peace of mind that one looks for.

There is however no need to overdo. It is fine indulging once in a way such as  applying some butter or ghee to bread slices will do no harm.

    • I just found out that my HDL is low and my LDL is high but my triglycerides were normal. I know I need to make a change but I just don't know where to start.

      • If you like wine go for red wine and see the difference. My doctor recommended that i take 190 ml on five days of the week. You can increase your exercise as well among other things that i have written about.

Good wishes are on their way.

    • yes agree with you.and thank you for sharing useful information ,now a days because of the unhealthy food these kind of problems occurs in our body.

    • I feel bad that I was ignorant about cholesterol. My husband now has a heart condition and I worry if I could have changed our eating habits earlier on and prevented it. The thing is there were no warning signs. He was hardly ever sick. Even though heart disease is in his family, I thought his chances were minimal because he did not have the same bad habits as his father (mainly drinking and smoking). When he was diagnosed, I was completely taken aback. But I've since then adjusted and our diet has changed quite a bit. I had to change my diet to make sure he would change his. What are wives for? :) We always look for natural ways to attack health problems.

    • I really wonder whether our old people really followed the tips that are mentioned in the article? No . Definitely 'No' is the answer as we all know. But how could they live for 80 and 90 years. What is the secret behind their living for good length of time? There is no answer that can give satisfactory explanation. THE IGNORANCE IS A BLISS THAN HAVING A KNOWLEDGE.

The tips MENTIONED in the Article may be useful for keeping us fit because we do not do physical exercise. There are people who do not walk properly. All bad habits. Besides this we got a fear complex of Diabetes, blood pressure, kidney problem.Unfortunately, the Doctors are having do not having good standard. They know how to refer a patient for a medical tests and get their commission.

I think doing some yoga regularly and nourishing the body with the tips enumerated in the article above will definitely keep one live long.

      • That is what I said in my post. My mother never knew there was such a thing as cholesterol and she lived beyond 90. Now that we know a bit about it, it haunts us.

    • Yes, it be cured naturally by everyone at home talking many positive exercises at homes on daily basis. Cholesterol is not a deadly poison, but a substance vital to the cells of all mammals. There are no such things as good or bad cholesterol, but mental stress, physical activity and change of body weight may influence the level of blood cholesterol. A high cholesterol is not dangerous by itself, but may reflect an unhealthy condition, or it may be totally innocent.

I think that In certain aspects low cholesterol is worse than high cholesterol. Already fifteen years ago, American researchers found that low cholesterol predicts an increased risk of dying from diseases of the stomach, the intestines and the lungs.

Children with allergic problems, such as asthma and hay fever, have lower cholesterol than healthy children. As allergic diseases have become more common and is still increasing in the Western world it is tempting to suggest that the cause is the increasing consumption of the polyunsaturated vegetable oils of the omega-6 type, because these oils are known to stimulate inflammatory processes, and allergy is a kind of inflammation.
