Hollywood Movie Nostalgia : Bond Movie Thunderball(1965) – Review

Guns, stunts, blasts, blondes and rush of adrenalin- these are the prime ingredients which Bond Movies have been traditionally associated with. While the advent of Daniel Craig as Bond has made the series a bit more into the domain of realistic stuff and made Bond look a bit less of a womaniser, from Sean Connery to Roger Moore and to Pierce Brosnan, Bond had this persona of being adventurous, a bit of knee jerker, and very much fond of women’s company.

In fact, many people still swear by the first Bond- Sean Connery, who inspite of his heavy typical Scottish accent, carried a charisma which was unique.

Carrying his charisma, he starred in the 1965 Bond Movie Thunderball. The movie has Claudine Auger, Adolfo Celi

and Luciana Paluzzi and its music is by John Barry, who gave music for many Bond Movies.

The movie was a good success making big profits.

In short the story is that Sean Connery as Bond is on the trail to find two NATO atomic bombs stolen by an International criminal Organization SPECTRE, which demands £100 million in diamonds, in ransom.

Else they threaten to target cities in England or America.

Bond is assisted by a CIA agent in finding the stolen bombs.

The movie ends in a climax where the Spectre’s henchmen and special forces from United States which assist Bond and Bond as well fight underwater battle.

There are girls involved in between, one of them helping Bond, and of course there are one or two scenes where Bond is shown very close to the girls.

For me, the stunt with sharks in the tank as well as the underwater fight were the reasons why I liked this movie.

The initial sequence had Bond escaping a place with a special fuel powered equipment which lets him fly, and a special car which guards from bullets and also sprays water on people.

Overall, a one time watch, and of course, if you like Bond mania and stunts, you might watch them again and again.

    • I think it is one of the best movies because it is mysterious movie due to James Bond talking in the beginning creates suspense in the waters' mind as.. At the beginning of the movie, when James Bond is talking to the French woman on the balcony outside the church, he says, "As I said, later," and then, "Come on." The words "Come on" are out of sync with his mouth. He looks to be saying something completely different.

The Colonel throws a vase at Bond who is about to catch it on his right shoulder. When we see Bond from behind, the vase shatters on his left shoulder.

In the opening scenes, as Bond fight with Jacques Bouvar (still dressed as a woman), the dresser falls down on Bouvar, and his hat and wig are knocked off. When Bond lifts the dresser off him, the wig and hat are back on his head.

The end scene says: The ransom is to be dropped, according to the briefing officer at "Precisely 20 degrees north, 60 degrees east" off the Mergui Archipelago. A glimpse at an atlas shows these locations are actually about 2,500 miles apart.
