There were two big events that happened in my life last year.One happened outside my classroom and home and the other one inside my classroom.
I cannot describe my feeling feeding very poor and hungry children in our neighborhood. My feeling sucks seeing them eating as if there is no tomorrow. I understand why they eat that way; they are so starved. On that 2015 December morning, I called a neighbor to assist me to bring home very poor and hungry children. There are many of them living in shanties and squatters near the seashore. Their abode is always washed out by a flash-flood every time a ferocious storm attacks in our country. I fed them with loaves of bread, spaghetti, famous pancit and juices, and that made their Christmas day memorable and unforgettable. There are so many ways how to share our little blessings and joys to others. Let us make helpless children this 2016 Christmas so their lives will be meaningful on Christmas day.
Teaching is not an easy job. It needs lots of patience, perseverance and humor. I am teaching in one of the universities in our city. One afternoon, I lectured about Verbals. Just think about the number of students in my class, 45.Despite their figure; I could still monitor them especially during exams. After my lecture that afternoon, they have to answer their workbook based on the lessons. Sad to say, there was one guy sleeping during my lecture. After 40 minutes lecture with all the examples and drills, I instructed them to answer the 35 questions in their workbook; after which, checking was done in the class.
I wrote all the answers on the whiteboard. I announced to record their score. Nobody got perfect, except the one sleeping in the class. I was so surprised of his score. I told him” Could I have your book?” His eyes dilated as if in terror. Then, I seconded this time I raised my voiced, “Give me your book! “ How come you got perfect when you were sleeping while I lectured the lessons? His classmate stood up, got his book and handed it to me, only to know that he answered nothing and just wrote above the page 35/35.
I thought that student would stop schooling which he didn’t. I told myself that this guy has no shame. So, the semester was over and I gave him a failing grade; instead of expulsion in the university as supposed punishment. Cheating is a crime.Because it was Christmas season, so I gave that student a second chance. What a sicking feeling!

So in the second incident, what happened afterwards? Did the student improve?
I never had the experience to cheat during my school days. I do agree with you that teaching needs a lot of patience. In some instances, I am always late during my college days. I humbly say that I am one of the bright students in class. I think some students need to know the importance of education. However, youngsters are like monsters nowadays. They totally different from the old school.
PEEUSH TRIKHA Actually, he transferred to other school because of shame. He was bullied by his classmates. That was a very shameful act he did in his life. He should have answered his workbook in advance.I waited him to say sorry so I could sense his remorse, but none. That guy was always sleepy in class and I have learned that he was having his 24/7 Dota on line game. I do not know his update in the other school.
@Shavkat, ha ha ha , I like the term you used "monster" students. I agree with you. This time students are so lazy.They do not care if the pass or not.There are so many students coming to school to inquire about the update of their sons/ daughters. Some mothers were in tears when learned about the grades of their son/daughter. They concentrate more on bonding, selfie, playing on line DOTA 2 this time. Few months ago Conjuring 1 and 2.Plus so many coming very late 45 minutes , almost 1 hour and almost dismissal time. I check their attendance and after 15 minutes strike from their schedule, they will be marked absent. That is a policy in school to student to be marked absent after 15 min utes strike e.g class at 7:30-9:00 student to arrive 7:46 is already considered absent. They have to run from gate to classroom to catch up the time.Some reasons why late: cannot wake up early, traffic, sick which are not tolerable.I told them to sleep early so they can up early too.You are right, students today are so far different from students of yesterday despite no goggle only vast library. Library now seems forgotten by many students.
The real spirit of christmas is about giving, and sharing the blessing you have to others not only in christmas day but to do it everyday as an act of charity. It's a very wonderful feeling to give than to recieve. As for my school days, i never really had the chance to cheat on my exam and not even participate on our discussion at school but i aways got a high grades on our periodical test that makes my classmate wonder why i got a higher score on my test without even participating in our recitation. Why? Because i do really study on my exam very well and i would say that is my alas on my fellow classmate during my high school days. I can easily do memorialization
The first example was so inspiring, you are lucky you that the chance to help those poor children. There are well to do people who never have the chance to help poor people, there are many reason why.
@ilema eryan , That is right about the true meaning of giving not only during Christmas but any day. We cannot avoid to entertain some that beg us anywhere. That is what I observe this time so many beggars in the city where I live.Then so many children blocking the streets, entering jeepneys and sing Christmas carols just to earn some. I never give children caroling in jeepneys and anywhere because their parents are just sleeping in their home and just use their children to have something to eat. Their parents might also be drug addicts. That is now the picture of our country so numerous drug addicts.
SuperD , Thanks friend for your appreciation of my actions done to those hungry children. I used to help hungry people. I got this feeling during college when I was the president of the ROTARACT club.That time, I did see the first 30 very poor people resided at the bushes/ shanties. That was part of our mission to raise funds to feed the first 3o hungry old people. My tears fall when see these 30 very old people.Despite they are very poor, but God did not leave them, for they were never sick with bad sicknesses. After feeding them, we distributed canned goods, 5 kilos rice, bath soap, toothpaste, laundry soap, biscuits. The feeling was nice. I can never forget that feeding when I was in college. This is what I like to do in my life to fee the helpless, the hungry.
The first one is a great work you have done. Because there are many people who are starving for want of food. So donating some food to the poor is really acceptable. This is the good habit one should develop for a peaceful and prosperous society. They happily accept it and also bless us which is really more valuable than any worldly things.
But the second one is quite contrary to the former one. If one is not educated properly he can not live. As the boy was head strong he was sleeping in the class without paying attention to the class. He did not score well also for which there is a punishment is there. But it was not given just out of sympathy as it happened to be Christmas season. Here we are making him dull and encouraging him to be careless in the class and also outside. If everybody becomes lenient there will be only dull and headstrong people in the society. Instead of doing good we are actually doing them harm.
The main object of any festival on earth is spread brotherhood among the peoples of the earth. Gathering of all persons on the festivals shows mental and spiritual understanding and physical contact with one another. All the festival are one earth made by God or by man.
peoples appendicitis in all festival with whole hearts to enjoy the festival and peoples relatives, friends, aliens...thus festival infuse a spirit of brotherhood among the hearts of the peoples.
But when the festivals end alas peoples' heart turn to the same position as were before the festivals. What is this nothing but selfishness and jealousy these two things are ruling every country and festival have lost its spiritual messages in every country.
Now these days people arrange festival just to pass time leaving no good message behind among the mass.
