Oh No! Don’t kill off those characters!

There is a Daily TV Sop being aired on Star Plus at 9 P.M. It started in late 2011, showing a traditional family in a small city named Pushkar in Rajasthan. The Program name is “Diya Aur Bati“. Yet the story evolved into the struggle of a woman named Sandhya who wanted to be an IPS officer. With the help of her understanding husband Sooraj, she achieved her dream. She fought with terrorists, hijackers, thieves, even tackled corrupt politicians, and even some scheming relatives.

Finally, she and her family are recently tackling a group of maniacal terrorists who have taken a whole street of Pushkar as hostage and have some deadly biological or chemical weapon which can cause big destruction.

Somehow the Terrorists are nuetralized, but in a sad twist both Sooraj and Sandhya have taken a pill each which will cause them to blast and they have become live human bombs. Such bombs(seems possible but improbable even though we have a number of such weapons of destruction around us) if they detonate will kill everyone within 10 Kms of radius and so both of them have to go and die somewhere far away.

Now, the TV Program makers have probably decided to end this program on this sad note with the death of the main protagonists of the program.

I feel a bit sad. It is not as if I used to watch all the episodes of this. I mostly watched the ones which had some drama, suspense or action.

I feel that the Program makers could have ended the show on a more positive note.

If we have so many negatives in our lives around us, why to show such reality everytime on TV or Cinema also?

May be, the Producers and Directors of this Program will later on change the story and bring back the characters in Season 2 of this show, but till then we will have to keep our fingers crossed.

Till then, please do not kill off those characters.

    • It bothers me when they kill off characters I have become attached to. The TV series MI-5 was the only program that has successfully killed off characters and stayed popular. The “lucky charm” was the fact that they replaced the killed-off characters with characters that were just as good. Don't know many shows that are able to do that and keep their loyal fan base.
