Intellectual Abuse

Although a key element of domestic violence, it is often found in the work place if you have a Boss from Hell.

His attempts at emotional abuse don’t work because you probably hate him and couldn’t care less about his views or ideas.

But his practice of Intellectual Abuse affects you, because he is the one who can criticize your work, ridicule you in front of others, and make a right answer seem wrong.

In the family situation, when the wife loves the husband and believes in him, this abuse will have the victim double checking everything she says and even accepting his views and decisions even when they are wrong.

In the Workplace, the Boss from Hell is prepared to lose money, waste paper and supplies, and create issues, just to gain the satisfaction of hurting his employees.

In the home, this abuse comes after emotional, after separating the victim from her friends and family so that he is the only input.

In the office, the Boss is King, so eight hours a day one puts up with the character, after all, it’s his electricity, his paper, his work, not the victim’s.

In the home, there is no escape, there is no pause button. The constant whittling down and insult has its effect in destroying the wife.

She is the one who always has to check with her husband if she can go to that movie, join that club, visit that friend.

She is the one who is never sure of anything and will defer to other’s opinions because her self esteem has been undermined.

The abused wife will repeat his lies, uphold his ‘principles’ .  The abused wife monitors herself  to make sure she says what he wants her to.

In a very real sense, she no longer exists.

This is why she puts up with the abuse.
