Foods That Fight Depression

What you eat certainly has an effect on your body but did you know it can have an impact on your mind too? Especially when you are fighting a mental illness. Certain substances and nutrients can play a key role in fighting depression naturally. It’s been proven that certain vitamins and nutrients play important roles in helping to fight depression. So, if you’re feeling depressed – check out some of these natural depression fighters.

 

Following are the foods that fight against depression:

1 – Turkey.

Turkey is high in L-tryptophan and L-tyrosine, two amino acids that are said to be mood boosters. These substances are needed to make the important chemicals in your brain called norepinephrine and serotonin. While you can take supplements of this amino acids to fight depression, experts suggest eating foods which are rich in them will help your body more readily absorb them.

 

 

2 – Salmon.

Many of us have heard about Omega 3s and good fats. Salmon is high in both of these, those essential fatty acids may play a big part in diminishing depression.

3 – Beans.

Beans are important for two reasons. The first is folic acid, it may have an impact on important neurotransmitters which fire within the brain. Some are also high in magnesium which has been shown to help depression and anxiety.

 

 

4 – Whole Grains.

Depression can cause you to crave carbs. Instead of filling up on empty carbs, eat whole grain which can actually help in your fight against depression!

 

 

It’s hard to eat healthy when you’re depressed but it can be a key component in fighting back against the depression. Being deficient in key nutrients isn’t going to help your body and brain be in its optimal state.       To fight depression we must eat these fruits and vegetables as Beta-carotene: apricots, broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, collards, peaches, pumpkin, spinach, sweet potato

      Vitamin C: blueberries, broccoli, grapefruit, kiwi, oranges, peppers, potatoes, strawberries, tomato

      Vitamin E: margarine, nuts and seeds, vegetable oils, wheat germ

      besides, Foods like turkey, tuna, and chicken have an amino acid called tryptophan, which may help you make serotonin. Try to eat something with protein several times a day, especially when you need to clear your mind and boost your energy.

      Good sources of healthy proteins include beans and peas, lean beef, low-fat cheese, fish, milk, poultry, soy products, and yogurt.
