Who? You ask, for you’ve never heard this woman’s name. But you have heard her voice.
She was the voice which sang Julie Andrew’s songs, the voice who sang for Audrey Hepburn, Natalie Woods, and she did some of the singing for Marilyn Monroe, and all of the singing for Deborah Kerr.
In short, she was the voice behind the camera, the voice which received no credit.
Beginning in 1948, Marni Nixon would be called upon when a star was required to sing.
She was warned if she ever told anyone that she was the real singer in those hit movies, she’d never work again.
She didn’t tell anyone, however, members of the symphonies she worked with would talk. It became the worst kept secret in Hollywood so that in 1964
As she was uncredited she received no royalties from the film score when it was placed on records. People thought they were hearing Julie Andrews or Audrey Hepburn or Natalie Wood, when in truth they were hearing the unmentioned ghost; Marni Nixon.

Thank for sharing these bio facts about a talented person. You also answered a question. I wondered of somebody else was doing the singing for some of those actresses in those movies you mentioned. Now I know. :)
She had such a wonderful voice, and such range. And never got the credit.
I have watched some of these movies and always thought it was Julie
Andrews singing. Cruel that she was asked to keep it a secret. How could they have done that to her.
In those days Hollywood was ... welll.. perfect. And Audrey Hepburn could sing... Natalie Wood could sing... on and on... people who can't sing... but were cast in musicals because they were box office.
