A Bobbi Brown fan confessional: How I started with makeup

I was a late bloomer when it comes to makeup and all things “girly”. I am not really a tomboy type but maybe, I just didn’t bother much about how I looked. Never cared if I looked like a ghost. Or maybe, I didn’t want to spend too much money back then, hah! I remembered a time when I only had a lip gloss inside my “pouch” to bring to work. My Mom even scolds me because I never want to wear anything vibrant on my lips (but now I am quite hooked with Korean lip tints).

When I relocated abroad for work, that’s the time I realized how important it is to make sure I look professional and presentable at all times. It didn’t help when I noticed I am surrounded by colleagues who dress impeccably or those who really take the time to look their best when going to work. I also needed to face the client for meetings and discussions so looking good is a must. So at the time I was in Singapore, I enrolled myself (together with a couple of friends) to a basic makeup tutorial so I know the basics how to apply makeup. The event was conducted by makeup artists from Bobbi Brown and at the time, I can say that’s when I started my fondness over cosmetics and skincare.

Bobbi Brown Products

Bobbi Brown products are really high-quality. It is also a bit pricey in comparison to the Korean brands I buy these days but I can say that it is worth the money. As an example, this blusher brush from Bobbi Brown was the first “investment tool” I bought using my salary and it’s been years since I had it with me. If I remembered it correctly, I bought this in 2009 and look, still looks (and feels) like new!

Apart from the blusher brush, I also have the top-up brush that I use to apply concealer and corrector around my eye bag area. At the time I had the class, I also wanted to buy more brushes from Bobbi Brown (or makeup) but lacked more funds. So long story short, I settled with these brushes and an eyeshadow duo I still use until this day.

To be honest, I’d go for Bobbi Brown products if I can help it. But since I don’t, that’s why I try to look for cheaper alternatives by using brands like Loreal or look for as effective budget skincare from Korea.

Overall, I have been an avid fan of Bobbi Brown products and also give some to my Mom as gifts. She is also very happy with them (I gave her lipsticks, eye shadow, and blusher) and told me her friends praised her makeup at the time she used it! That’s why I try to have at least one Bobbi Brown product under a certain “category” because I know I cannot replace the quality and longevity of this brand when it matters.

    • My make up have been just some lipstick and a brush with talcum powder even in my younger days. Now that I am a senior I need to dye my hair.

      Good you found your brand.

      • I guess life is a lot simple back then. To be honest, I wouldn't (probably) have been so much into cosmetics in skincare if I haven't been living and working in Western countries. I think the way they present themselves in the corporate world is a lot different to how things are in my home country so I need to step up my game if I want to be taken seriously.

    • I started using makeup when I was a young girl thanks to my Indian friend who introduced me.Since that time I have been wearing make up since then without difficulties. My brand has always been black opal. I would recommend any lady to wear makeup once in a while it gives you a perfect and kind of different look. It is also advisable to wear makeup that suits your skin very important.

      • It's the first time I heard of Black Opal. Is it available worldwide? I think it is important for girls to know how to look (and feel) good. I know there are some who would argue they don't need makeup to do that and I agree but I guess it's also a "need" especially for professionals. We don't admit it, but "looks" are as important as skill when it comes to landing your dream job or a promotion.

    • i like all the makeup brands as yo uwill find good one in all tho them but, i likee boobi borwn once and i tried revlon which is little nicer, and found that the two of them are alike, so why to pay extra, pay for revlon since they no difference, but the eyeliner i like cliniaue and i use it only for nice day or parties or going on vactaion as this is really pricey makeup that you cant really use it daily unless you are totally rich and dont really get tired for money
