Carry Your Lunch From Home

Why you should carry your lunch from home?

It really makes sense.   You know exactly what you are eating, and it will taste the way you created.  It works out cheaper and is convenient.

I usually have an apple and a slice of cheese for lunch.  No cooking no mess.

When I began carrying my lunch from home I had flashbacks of my school days.

Two things I never eat; sardines and mackerel.  This is due to the effect these have on the fragrance of a classroom after being in a school bag for four hours.

The humiliation of these lunches has turned me against them for all time, and I would never give this to children.

When you carry your lunch, (assuming you eat more than an apple and a piece of cheese) you want to have nifty containers.  You can often reuse containers you’ve gotten before; such as those which came with a take away.

Never use those awful containers in a Microwave.  They are storage only.  Always use ceramics or glass to heat your lunch, if it needs heating.

Carry plastic utensils.  These are really great because you don’t care if you lose them, (that is after you’ve finished your lunch, not before).

In my country many things are not what they are supposed to be, many things are cooked badly with reused cheap oil, and the number of law suits should discourage all but the most cast iron stomach from eating prepared food.

Unless you have friends to share with, always carry less than you think you will want.  This is to prevent having to throw away food.

Plan your meal and pack it, carry it with you and enjoy, knowing what you are eating.

    • I could not have imagined writing a blog on this subject but you have done a good job of it. I carried food to office in a tiffin carrier. Earlier we had guys who visited homes and collected those tiffin carriers and delivered them to us. There was an encounter of Prince Charles with one of these guys and he was intrigued how this system worked. They never made any mistakes. The prince was so charmed that he even invited this guy - I think there were two of them - for his wedding. Here, you can read more about it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4408545.stm over.

      • That's lovely. What inspired me is that everyone has to go out to lunch and you don't know what you are eating. You don't know what oil is used or reused.

    • I never carried a lunch box to my school before. However, when I was still working in a company. I used to have my lunch box because of health reason. I prefer to have slow food than pigging out in the food chain. We all know that bad effects of eating fast food to our health.

      • I carried lunch then stopped eating lunch. At one point there was this salad bar. Now... lunch from home. I don't have to worry.

        • I think salad is good for every meal. However, it is not advisable for me because of job-related. I would prefer to have heavy meals and have some salad as side dish. If I am not working, I would definitely want to have a light meal instead.

          • Depends on what is in the salad. I had a salad with avocado and walnuts in NY which was very filling...

          • Depends on your work... physical vs mental. If you have a lot of physical work... sure. If you have to think, you want your stomach a bit empty.

      • Sometimes I would have a meal, save half for tomorrow's lunch. It was cool to know what I was going to eat, how it would taste... I don't want to find previous living creatures in my food.

    • When I worked in a hospital that had healthy, economical food in the cafeteria, I ate there every day. But for most people, taking a packed lunch from home just makes more sense. Even in Canada, where food safety is less of an issue, the health and financial benefits of taking a packed lunch from home are huge.

      • Bringing your own lunch which is available when you want it, how you want it is really a power every one has and few take.

      • The reason I wrote it is because I became the office freak when I showed up with my lunch. Then everyone started to consider it was a better idea.
