The error while understanding terror

Hello Everyone!

The world is heading to a dangerous place. Today, there is only 1 topic which is bothering almost every single country worldwide. That topic is: terrorism.

No, this post is not about Islamic State OR Al Qaeda OR Boko harem nor is this any attempt to link terrorism with religion.

This post is just to expose double standards world governments play with terrorism and the repercussions of playing politics with terrorism. But, first some definitions.

As stated by Wikipedia, different legal bodies and different governments define terrorism differently and no universal definition is known. But, the most common definition is: It is the use of violence or threat of violence in order to purport a political, religious, or ideological change.

But, due to certain misunderstanding, this definition seems quite relative. No one sees that while 1 group counts them as criminals, another one counts them under heroes. For example, Hamas is counted as terrorists by Israel but hailed by Palestinians as freedom fighters. Recently, in India, a terrorist Burhan Wani was killed and media counted him as hero.

To avoid relativity problem, violence used for self – defense (where people fight as that is the only measure) OR wartimes (which is a mutual agreement between both parties) is not counted under terrorism. Still, there is some problem as the world is not able to reach on a clear consensus. The problem is that no one wants to see that no matter who wins, humanity will always lose. Most of the politicians are greedy people who can easily infiltrate as many terrorists as they want. Armies will fight with them – they always do. But civilians will die – may be this is their fate. Governments are not interested in solving the problem – who cares for death of a civilian?

Interestingly, sometimes terror is used to outdo terror. For example, Al Qaeda was used against Assad regime. Everybody is OK with this tactic. Regardless of who gets the power, this is a common trend everywhere. While some people say that terror grows from the desire to get into power. Americans themselves are now vocal against Obama administration.

Everything has a limit though. People cannot tolerate nonsense till eternity. Slowly, this politics is getting caught. While this is a slow change, it is happening for good.

Hopefully, we are able to witness the change we need. Let us wait to see a world better for all of us.

    • If the West began to interpret the actions of the terrorists as signs of their homosexuality then....considering how Muslims hate homosexuals... they might be a bit less quick to act.

Sure, it's not 'right' but it's the kind of trick that just might work. Instead of the terrorist world hailing the animal who drove his bus into all those people in Nice they would get a message....
