Learning Spanish

Learning a new language implies an effort. Well, depending on which language you want to learn, and the language you already speak, of course.

 I can talk about what I already know. I’m a native Spanish speaker. I first learned French at school. When I was young, French was the only language taught at school. If you wanted to learn English, you had to learn it at an academy, for example.

 So I learned some French. French is quite similar to Spanish. Well, somehow similar if you compare it to German of English, to name two… Both languages, French and Spanish have similar origins, the same way German and English languages do.

 I teach Spanish online, using Skype. And during these last 15 years, I have been able to realize there is a big difference between two types of students: those, generally young people, who have to learn Spanish because they have an exam. Obligation.

 And, on the other hand, adults who want to learn Spanish just because the want to!

 So, so far, we have two things to consider when we want to study a foreign language:

1.  Choosing a language
2.   Motivation // Obligation

 I always say the same thing: “where there’s a will there’s a way.” Or, the way we would say that in Spanish: “Si quieres, puedes.” (Which, literally, and word by word, means: “if you want, you can.”.

 And, finally, we have a third point to consider: Money. I mean, how much learning a language will cost you.

Of course, there are lots of language academies, courses, teachers, etc. But I have met quite a lot of people – students – who started learning Spanish by themselves, using free resources, like books from the library, or free online resources. Or maybe they were spending some little money buying magazines, etc…

 And that’s the point. There are a lot of free resources on the internet. So I thought it would be a good idea to share them with you. The same way you can share with us any method you use, or resource you found to learn a language. Not just Spanish, any language.

 I’m planning to write more post about learning languages using free resources, but, for now, feel free to ask me anything relating to Spanish language, it will be a pleasure to help you.
