El Salvador Santa Leticia coffee beans
When we buy a bag of coffee beans, I tend to shy away from fruit-based notes because it usually means that my coffee will taste sour. Now, it might be just my coffee preference but there are times when the acidity can be overbearing (even if I drink it with milk) and I don’t get to enjoy my cup! There are days when I want to be a little bit more adventurous with my options and choose fruity coffee beans but not for my everyday consumption.
It was a rare sunny spring morning here and we went outside for a walk. I decided to drop by a convenient store to check the aisles when I noticed they have a few interesting bags of coffee for sale. We usually buy our beans from DiscountCoffee or Amazon because they are cheaper but I tend to buy 1 or 2 bags of specialty coffee every 2 months – just to have a taste. Not to mention that there are really good (but pricey) bags of beans sold here. So I got curious when I saw this Hancock and Abberton bag of El Salvador Santa Leticia coffee beans. I was initially apprehensive whether to go for it because of the fruit notes but decided to give it a go since it mentioned of golden syrup sweetness as well. I thought it might not end up being too sour and hoping the syrup’s sweetness can balance it out.
I was excited to try it out so I had my husband make coffee for us (he is the barista in the house anyway). While he was grinding the beans, I caught a whiff of that nice fruity aroma and definitely appreciate the scent of something candy-ish. I wasn’t sure if I was just overthinking about the syrup taste notes or what but I thought that I smelled something toffee. I had my usual cup of latte and took my first sip. As expected, it was sour – but not overwhelmingly so. I can definitely taste the acidity especially when I swallow the coffee but not as strong as the other fruity beans I tried in the past. I’d say the acidity made the beans a lot suitable for milk-based drinks so that it balances the creaminess of the milk.
Surprisingly, I was pleased I decided to go for this bag of coffee for a change of the usual safe-tasting beans we have at home. It was a good change but not something I’d buy regularly because the price for a kilo of this is double or triple the money we pay for beans. Of course, it is nice to drink something different but in the end, I am still a frugal (or trying to be frugal) Mom who wants to stick to her budget!
Overall, I find it a good value for money to buy Hancock and Abberton bag of El Salvador Santa Leticia coffee beans. I don’t mind buying it again in the future – so long we have the budget for it.

thanks for the tip of the coffee beans that have a fruit scent tasting sour. i like coffee beans too and grinding them fresh.
Isn't it wonderful to smell freshly ground beans (especially after waking up!). Yeah fruity beans tend to be a little bit more acidic. So as much as I can I avoid it or try to find something with a "caramel/chocolate" infusion so it balances it out.
My favorite coffee is a brand from San Mig coffee sometimes granulated from Nescafe.Nice to know of this coffee brand.
Ah we also buy instant coffee granules and use it for times when we wake up late in the morning, LOL!
I never tire of trying new coffees. I finished a bag of Kenya last month. I have been on Community brand for the past few months. So for the moment it's been a daily cup or two of Hotel Blend. I will certainly check your recommendation for your El Salvador blend. I hope I can find it at Walmart. If not, I can check Amazon unless of course one of the many supermarkets in Dallas has it on their shelves. Thanks for sharing.
I love the options available in the US (and the price is not too bad, either!). Kenyan beans are strong but has a dark, rich flavor to it - so definitely goes well with milk. I hope you find it in Amazon. I am not sure you can get it from Walmart, though.
