5 tips to stay safe in high rise buildings

I was excited to have the opportunity to visit my ex-

schoolmates house which is located at a luxury

condominium in the heart of the city.

Flats, apartments , villas and condominiums are considered

as high rise buildings where people live above each other

like a stack of lego blocks.

I had been staying on land house since I was born.

Hence, I never had the experience of living in high rise

building houses as these stacked up blocks which looks

similar to pigeon holes to me arent cheap either.

Nowadays apartments, villas and condominiums are costly,

the value of each floor varies in prices which could cost

more than houses on land.

However, living in high rise buildings is a different

experience compare to houses on land.

My friend told me that once you started to live in high rise

buildings, there are precaution rules that the residents had

to take note for safety purposes.

In Singapore alone, almost 85% of people are living in

high rise buildings while Malaysia, most people are still

living on land as the prices of high rise buildings are

equivalent to semi-detached and bungalow houses.

Whether you are living in flats, apartments , villas and

condominiums, remember that you are living in the sky.

Your house is hanging up in the air and if you are not

careful, you may fall to your death as news reports of

maids and kids accidentally fell down from high rise

buildings due to negligence and carelessness of employers

and parents.

Here are some tips that my friend shared with me which I

had learned from her that staying safe in the clouds, you

just had to follow the safety tips:

#1 –Do not store items on your balcony or doorway:

Big cupboards, Chinese prayer big cans, big potted plants

and shoe wears ( slippers, sandals, shoes ) may block the

escape routes especially the stairs if fire hazard occurs.

Residents will stumble and fall while running for their

lives and hurt themselves while these items blocked their

ways.

#2- Keep a watch on toddlers:

When your kids or toddlers are playing near the balcony,

make sure that they do not climb on stools, chairs,

furniture or potted plants to climb over the wall.

Accidental deaths usually occur when no one is watching

over the kids and even teens.

#3- Dont stand or lean out the windows:

Maids and housewives who are cleaning the windows and

balconies, please refrain yourself from standing on the

stool or lean out the windows. This is a very dangerous act.

You are not WonderWoman or BatWoman. You are neither

a bird either. Use a long pole with brush or wipes to clean

the windows instead.

#4- Do not throw things outside the windows or

balcony:

Be civic minded. Remember that residents are walking

downstairs on the ground. Throwing cigarette buds, canned

drinks, trash may hurt the below passer by without

knowing.

#5- Do not decorate small potted plants on the edge

of the balconies or windows:

Same problem. If you accidentally pushed the pot without

knowing or cats push it down, someone is definitely going

to break his head for sure!

Mishaps often occur when someone is careless in handling

these flower pots.

Never place flower pots on the edges of the balconies.

The victims on the ground might die instantly from the

weight of the flower pot that fell down.

Of course, if I am booked to live in hotels or do some errands in the buildings; then that's the time I need to have these safety tips. Your friend has a point on this. I had read or watch news some accidents that happened in tall buildings as you had mentioned.
