You can save money on buying local food, be it in the hypermarket or wet
market.
However, remember not to waste food. Don’t buy excessive food in bulk.
Don’t be greedy over the big discount but wasted the food to rot on itself
since you cannot finish it in time (before expiry date).
Tons of food had been wasted at the hawker stalls, food courts, fast food
restaurants and at home because consumers are greedy, did not plan ahead
food preparation and estimate the volumne of food required per meal for the
family.
Always take a peek inside your fridge before starting your grocery
shopping trip.
List down the ingredients that are running low in stock, which you needed
frequently for cooking purpose.
Make sure those left-over food are used up for the next day meal.
Don’t leave them to rot in the fridge.
Check the freezer for bulk store up sauces, food that you had prepared ahead. Cook them before you buy the stock.
Discard expired food. Never leave them in the fridge. Occupy up space.
Dairy food such as yogurt, milk, cheese, cream cheese should be consumed
before the expiry date.
Always dig out those jars, bottles, at the back of the fridge.
Don’t leave them behind.
First in first out. Whatever food that you had bought first, cook them first.
Who says that delicious food has to be imported or branded ingredients?
Always look out for local manufactured or grown ingredients first.
Compare the price and the quality. If the difference is more than 50 cents or
a dollar, choose local made food.
Local food taste as good as imported foreign food because they are the same
item but grown in different countries or method of growing.
The sauce and seasoning that is right, helps to enhance the flavor of your
recipes.
Regardless of meat types are more expensive than vegetables and beans.
Cook less meat weekly. Consume different meat recipes weekly.
Cook chicken recipe once a week. Next week, cook fish and the next
week, cook pork.
You don’t have to consume meat daily. Just once a week , you are able to
save a huge amount of money in grocery shopping monthly.
Buy more local grown vegetables, such as mustard greens, lettuce, spinach,
pak choi. Purchase imported vegetables such as broad beans, asparagus,
broccoli when there is a big sale or season sale
Do not dine out daily or on weekends.
You can save money on eating out by eating home cooked food
When you dine out, you will have to pay for the government tax, service tax
and other charges besides the food you had ordered
If you dine out, let it be on special occasion such as birthdays, holidays,
festive season but choose the location.
Do not dine at fancy restaurants. You can choose to dine at road side stall,
shop house restaurants, bring pot luck to your parents’ home.
Always remember to order one meal per person.
Don’t order the beverage yet.
Bring along your own water bottle or sky juice.
Beverage price on the menu is expensive as a plate of salad!
Alternatively, you can share your beverage with your sibling!
