Continuing to supply advice to those who are publishing stand alone blogs. Refer back to one of my previous posts on affiliate marketing and blog monetization.
If you are an expert or have a passion about a particular topic you could probably publish a really successful blog. That’s what “they” say.
I can’t speak from my own personal or professional experience. None of my blogs have a specific niche. If you are like me (i.e. you don’t really have an expertise), then you are constantly experimenting and evolving your “free style”. But there are lots of things you can do to sort of help move your “free standing blog” along. Slowly but surely, my blogs are beginning to gain traction, getting subscribers, followers, readers who enjoy my content, and visitors coming by to check out their competition. (Just kidding about the visitors. It’s a joke!) 🙂

TIP 1: Join a blogging community with an income potential like … ? – EX: Literacy Base. Communities like LB provide great support. The members try to help each other out, sharing experiences, etc. and often ask questions that are probably the same questions you were wanting to ask! When we put our heads together, we all benefit from the interactions.

TIP 2: Invite guest bloggers to your blog (or be a guest blogger for another blog, if they invite you) – Guest Bloggers Wanted

Tip 3: Reblog at your blog. It’s not considered plagiarism or content duplication by Google or other search engines. It’s easy. You share the blogger’s link with (or without) perhaps a short excerpt of the post to get the reader interested in further reading and maybe or (maybe not) add your own insights or comments. You’d be surprised. Many bloggers appreciate a reblog every now and then because it directs traffic from “your blog” to “their blog” and introduces “their content” to “your audience”, i.e. people who read your blog but may have never read their blog. – Here are two examples of my reblogs.
EX 1: MOVIE REVIEW: Big Bad Wolves | Written in Blood (Reblog)
EX 2: If You Could Create A Monster (Reblog)
(NOTE: This is how I reblog. Others may do their reblogging differently. These posts were published on the Blogspot platform. If you have ever reblogged using the WordPress platform you will notice it’s done a little differently.)

TIP 4: Have tried using blogging platforms thinking it would not be so hard since one blogging application is as good as the other. Right? Wrong! Tried one platform. Walked away feeling whipped. Gave up! Couldn’t figure how to publish on it. So my advice is: Find other places to publish in order to gain writing experience and to build your online presence and reputation; but look for sites that use a blogging platform you’re familiar with. It cuts down on the learning curve, and if that site already has a fairly decent online presence (i.e. a good SEO ranking) when you publish there you can include a link to your main stand alone blog in your Author’s Bio box (if allowed). – EX: About the Author: Profile at Daily Two Cents. (It serves as a “good back link”, which is a mechanism that the search engines love.)
